Update: I did go for an iPhone

My pixel 6 contract runs out soon and whilst the sensible thing would be to move to Sim Only as the Pixel 6 is in good condition I kind of want a new shiny.

I've never had an iPhone before and I am tempted to get the new 15 (the smaller 6.1" for my baby hands). Is there anything I would "lose" other than my paid for apps which is basically GTA San Andreas, Worms and Whatsapp? Are there any glaring omissions on the iphone app store?

Currently when I sign into Youtube my phone gets a pop up to authenticate this, how does this sort of thing work if you don't have an android phone? Will I be missing out on a lot with it being my only apple device?

Also just checking that the the iPhone 15 isn't a dud or one to avoid etc.

Sensible choice, by cheap used iPhone 12/13 in good condition with a healthy battery and see if you like it. Then if you don't get along go back to your Pixel.

Authenticators etc usually will pop up with a notification and you just tap that, which opens the app and you click approve. So maybe 1 more step than Android.

Other than that, there's nothing major that iOS is missing that Android has.

It's worth looking at the Pro models if you want a higher refresh rate as I imagine your Pixel has that currently.

Don't blame you, I have been pondering the same thing for a while and Google's announcement that they were binning their podcast app has ****** me off, the way they create apps and project and then bin them is annoying. My Son's phone is dying so I have been looking at replacements and nothing is floating my boat, been thinking about spending a bit more than I would normally, looking at the refurbished 13 but might go the full hog and by a new 15. Keeping with USB-C appeals, and checked my Poco X3 and I locked that to 60hz so I'll not be jumping from 120 to 60.

That said.. now I do have the iphone, watch and airpods all on the charging stand, I do fear it would be difficult to switch back if i wanted to!

The Watch is definitely a key factor but once you sell that it becomes a lot easier.

I still have the AirPods alongside an iPhone 13 Pro but switching to the Pixel 8 Pro this week.

I will warn you now.

I switched to my first ever iPhone a year ago, the 14 Pro. After never having owned one, using Android phones and Blackberry prior to that.

A year later, I now also own Airpod Pros 2, Apple Watch S8, iPad, Macbook Air M2 and an Apple TV 4k. It's a slippery slope :eek:.

Honestly it took me a while to get used to a few things, oddities like not being able to set the length of the snooze on alarms. But basically everything I have gotten used to and it's not causing me issues. The only thing I don't really get on with is in Sleep/Do not disturb mode, there are no notifications at all. Whereas on android, you still got a banner alert or the icon at the top of the screen to alert you of a new message. Now I have to actively check notifications or the home screen for messages.

Otherwise though, I love the hardware and software experience. The whole ecosystem works flawlessly together. I've not looked back.

@almoststew1990 - how invested were you with the Google Play store? Someone else here will be able to confirm 100%, but if memory serves, if you have chucked money at Android apps, i.e. premium features, ad removal or outright buying an app, then it won't carry over to the Apple Store versions. The exceptions is where it's tied to an account. E.g. Google Drive is tied in with your Gmail login, and if you have upgraded from the usual 17GB storage to 102GB storage for £16/year, then that will carry over to the iPhone as long as it's logged into Gmail.

Nothing that I would miss! Other than GTA San Andreas and GTA 3 which are my go to games if I've got a spare 20 mins.

I had a look at second hand iPhone 11 12 and they're pretty expensive, £220+. Which seems expensive as a stop gap that I won't keep whether I like the iphone or not. Ofc I appreciate it is cheaper than 24x £45 for a 15 and I'm aware of the man maths that I'm doing here lol.

I'm leaning towards just getting the 15 but I've got 30 days to decide.

Man maths indeed, not taking into account you'd likely get back 80% of what you paid even after a couple of months use, effectively renting a phone for £50 vs commiting £1000+ on a contract, which is a terrible way to buy a phone these days with extortionate RPI increases mid contract.

I'm also in the same boat. Looking at the pixel 8 pro and iPhone 15 pro.

I've been with pixel since the 2XL currently with a 6 pro.

I love my pixel but I'm now using social media a lot more for my business and my other half swears down that the media quality is greater on an iPhone than android. Especially on video uploads. "Why else do all influencers have iPhones"

I'm so unsure what to do.

Just get an iPhone mate if the social aspect is important to you.

Only reason for this is lots of people take the photo within the social media app, eg taking a picture within the instagram app. Don't do this and the quality is exactly the same (i.e. limited by the camera, not the app in which the media is taken)

As to "Why else do all influencers have iPhones", no idea but iPhones are seen as more premium, and in the US due to the prevalance of iMessage, the go-to option.

Probably so they can do all that filter *****.

It’s also worth noting if you get it from Apple you can get it on 0% so saves you getting a contract and you can get an esim. You’ll also be able to easily return it if you don’t get on with it.

I moved to an iPhone a few months ago from Android. Still not 100% fluid like I was with Android after 10+ years.

It’s not vastly different but apps are built differently like chrome not having the navigation menu at the top, it’s at the bottom. I miss the main navigation bar on Android, feels a bit clumsy not having it. The biggest diffence for me is lack of customisation I notice it mostly on widgets. But overall I am happy with the change. If I need to log into a Google app, the pop up does appear on my iPhone so that’s all good.

Oh and Bluetooth is strange, I can’t send files to my PC. I either have to sent them via email or my Google Drive.

Ohh a massive negative for me is Apple Car Play. Google Maps is no where near as good on the iPhone. Other than that I prefer CarPlay.
