For those who don't know, here's a speed recap:
Gearbox diff collapses.
Guy replaces gearbox and clutch, while replacing gearbox guy damages my car (chips the paintwork, damages air box intake, gets oily fingerprints on the inside of my car.
Replacement gearbox selector goes (only 5th gear doesn't work, rest are fine).
Guy road tests it, manages to destroy the selector and render whole gearbox unusable.
Guy replaces gearbox and clutch.
Clutch starts to bite high, notice damp engine casing, realise the gearbox is leaking, then diff collapses again.
So I follow trading standards advice and obtain 3 quotes to get the work done elsewhere, then send them to the garage and tell them i'm not satisfied with the quality of the goods they're supplying, nor the skill of the mechanics.
I got a report carried out and they found this:
They've used tons of silicone sealant in a very crude manner, there's damage to the casing (which should be clinical as it's a reconned one), it's basically a second rate gearbox they've thrown in there.
So I send him the letter and get a very badly worded one back today, saying that they will inspect the car for me and IF work is needed to fix the problems, they will do it. And if I get the inspection carried out elsewhere, it'll void the warranty (utter tosh).
So I've now got to either give him a 3rd chance and risk him damaging my car, fitting another second rate gearbox, not fitting it properly etc. or I tell him no thankyou, I want the money to get it fixed elsewhere or I take him to court.
Grrrr.
