Updated X99 Build - Advice Please :)

The 5820K has exactly the same amount of Cores/Threads as the 5930K. I think the only difference is the extra pci-e lane bandwidth and the slightly higher clock speed.

Sorry, I totally fudged up there, I'm not sure why. :p

After some hard thinking, I don't think I'm ever going to go more than 2 way SLI, so with the cheaper CPU, I could go 980 SLI, but really not worth it XD

On GPU it seems that 2 x 970's in SLI for an extra 50 quid will offer significant performance over 1 x 980 or am I missing something?

I was thinking the same but with how SLI can be with some games, and with the 980 being a better single GPU card, I personally think the 980 is more worth it, and it seems the consensus on other forums as well when people discussed the same thing :/

For just one card, or even 2 really, you won't lose anything by getting the cheaper 5820k.

+1 In fact if you do a lot of rendering it might even be worth contemplating finding an extra £300 to buy the 5960X 8-core CPU.

The 5930k is a bit of a pointless chip created by Intel's marketing team IMO as if you're want value you get the 5820k and for performance there's the extreme edition. I know it has more PCI lanes for multi GPU setups but it's kind of in an awkward middle ground between the other two CPUs. It feels like Intel only sell it because they want something priced in between their £300 and £700 CPU's
