Updating BIOS but not enough FDD space??

I'm attempting to update my BIOS for my Abit AW9D-MAX, so I installed a floppy drive, using XP I create an MSdos boot disc (it formats it and puts several system files on it that take up 556kb of space out of 1.38mb total).

I then put the 5 files Abit specify in their instructions onto the disc but there is not enough space on the disc! When I view the files on my C drive they are small enough (about 550kb worth), but during the transfer they are expanded to original size (about 1086kb), and this won't fit.

I'm following the Abi update BIOS instructions EXACTLY, and I don't know how they manage it. If someone can help with this I'd appreciate it (I know there are ways of doing the BIOS update via CD and I've tried following those instuctions but I can't seem to make it work as the instructions say it should).

Delete eveyting from the floppy except MSDOS.SYS, IO.SYS and COMMAND.COM. Then copy your files over.

Actually I've just checked the floppy files after creating the boot disc and those files you mention aren't on there? There are several files called things like "DISPLAY", EGA2.CPI, KEYB, KEYBOARD,KEYBRD2, MODE, instead?

Yes it is safe, those are the only files needed to boot from the floppy. The other files are to add support for accessing CD's and the like along with some tools for working with hard drives, Fdisk, format e.t.c.

If your not comfortable then don't bother.

I posted again after your intial reply - did you see it? - I don't have those files you mentioned on my disc? Why is this? The files you mentioned - are they kind of universal files for updating BIOS on any motherboard? If so can you explain where I get them? Thanks for your help.

Okay I sorted it. Used 2 floppies to update the BIOS, the first was the boot disc as made my XP, the 2nd contained the BIOS files and it worked fine.

Thanks for the advise anyway chaps.
