Just a quick noobish question folks.

when i go to update my bios on my Asus P8P67 Pro, can i do it before i install the operating system?

Thanks.

Step 1: Download .zip of BIOS from Asus site.
Step 2: Extract .rom from .zip, to USB stick, insert in motherboard
Step 3: Power up system, hit del to enter bios, switch to advanced mode, go to bios update (rightmost page), select .rom from USB stick. Wait. System will restart when prompted.
Step 4: Clear CMOS (see mobo manual. Power down, remove power cord, move CLRTC jumper to the right by one pin [see mobo manual] for a minute or so, move jumper back - you do not need to touch the battery, despite what others may say)
Step 5: Enter BIOS again, update settings for RAM (timings & voltages). In many cases this is easily achieved by selecting the XMP AI Overclock profile in the advanced menu.
Step 6: Insert bootable install media for OS of your choice.

I'd put an administrator password on the bios before clearing the CMOS - it might cost you an extra reboot, but it lets you tell if your CMOS clear has been successful, as doing so will remove the password prompt.

Also note that the Marvell SATA 3 controllers are regarded as rubbish, so you'll want to connect devices to the the Intel ones instead (and possibly disable the Marvell ones in the bios). The intel ones are the bottom three sets of ports on the right hand side of the motherboard - from top to bottom: Marvell Sata3 X2, Intel Sata3 X2, Intel Sata2 X2, Intel Sata2 X2.
