Updating the Supersaurus Cpu !!!!

A about four years ago I bough this pre-built system from Overclockers,

a Titan 8300i Supersaurus MK II" Intel Core i5 2500K 3.30GHz @ 4.60GHz DDR3 Quad Core System

I have since updated most things apart from the motherboard (a Msi P67A-GD53) and cpu. Was thinking about putting a new cpu in the machine but not sure what it can handle with it being a few years old.

Could anyone recommend a cpu that would give me a good boost in power. I also have a Geforce Gtx 680 in the machine.

The 2500k is still a good cpu and personally would keep until a next major upgrade.

But, what do you use your system for? a SSD would be a good upgrade if you dont have one.
 
Cheers chaps. Have a Samsung ssd in the machine and just upgraded to 16 gig of Corsair Vengeance ram. As for overclocking. The cpu has a huge block over it right now with a pipe leading to a huge fan on back of case. Is this "Air" ??

I just used the little overclock button on the motherboard for the first time today and its sitting at 3.29 ghz. What setting would need to change to bang it up a bit ??

Why in your description does it say [email protected] yet you are at 3.3Ghz?

Have you reset the CMOS or updated the BIOS which wiped the overclocked settings OcUK would have placed onto it.

Now that's a very good question There was a default OC setting in the bios and when selected only gave me 3.3ghz. Now I am am not sure if at some point in the last three year I have messed it up but for as long as I can remember its been at 3.3. Is it easy to change it back to 4.6 ?

Oh and in a effort to get my pc running better, about a hour ago I updated the motherboard bios for the first time.
 
Have a look in the BIOS at the save/load profiles.

See if there is one saved from OcUK when they set the original overclock.

then load it and save+exit.
 
If you pop back into the BIOS there should be at the bottom of the screen some options and one should read load CMOS from BIOS - I can't remember what button it is, either F11 or F12 and this should bring up the saved overclocked profile from OCUK.
 
Had a look and I remember it used to say Oc its now blank so I think at some point I have overwriten it with the default value as I selected it and am still at 3.3. Looks like I will need to change the settings my self. Arghhhhh...... Don't have a clue.
 
MSI neither do I, I haven't touched a MSI since PhenomII days.

Unless someone can guide you who has one the alternative is to type into Google your motherboard model and some keywords such as "overclocking guide".

Thanks mate. Am off to work so will have a mess around in the morning, sure it can't be that hard to do.
 
Once you've worked out how to get the advertised over-clock back then you're back at being able to run everything, no point buying new kit (at the reduced clock speeds you mentioned you may be feeling thing slow down though!)

The 2500k was a landmark processor to the point that I can't see any reason to replace it even today.
 
Updating the bios has wiped the profile, it's gone for good.
Easy to overclock a 2500k though, loads of guides and videos around.
 
Thats fine for temps.

If you want to check your overclock is stable try ASUS realbench test (keep an eye on the temps).
