Considering upgrading my graphics card.

Current Specs are:

A64 X2 4400 @ 2640 mhz
1900XTX @ 688mhz / 1584mhz
2Gb Corsiar Ram (forget which make but rated to run at 250mhz, currently running at 240mhz (480mhz DDR).

I game at 1280 x 1024 atm, cant see that changing in the near future.

However, cod 4 isnt running that smoothly. I was considering playing age of conan but my system seems to struggle a lot, even on low. According to system requirements lab test, my graphics card is whats letting me down.

What upgrades are available to me.

I'm open to all prices, but would a sub £200 card give me a massive increase, or would i need to spend £300 + for that.

Is my ram holding me back at all?

I have some 2 x 512mb corsair sticks lying about, were only rated for 400 but im pretty sure i had them running 480mhz ish on my 3200 winchester. Would this help or make things worse and possibly limit my cpu overclock.

Whats the 8800gt like at clocking. Currently running my chipset, cpu and gpu on water, so overclocking is something id greatly consider as well.

cant see why your having problems with cod4, i ran that all high and 4xAA at the same res as you and it ran smoothly and this was on x2 3800 @ 2.7ghz, 2gb of ram and an x1950pro.

Looks pretty good. Obviously using water, you should be at the higher end of those plots.

TBH everyone has a different definition of what runs COD well...as some people think 30fps is fine..others want 60fps+

I have a E6600@3ghz + 8800GT and all max'd out on cod4 i'd get anywhere between 60-120. However, im not sure i'd consider much less than that as 'fine', which is what it'd be on an x1900xt etc.

8800gt all the way imo.

im running 1280 x 1024, with max textures. Most graphic options on or up, apart from soften smoke edges and aa. Im playing with 0 x AA and most of the time i get around 40 - 50 fps. In heavy fire fights or when smokes around etc it drops to about 30 which is just too low for me :P
