After months of debating and spamming, the time for an upgrade is nearly nigh.

Ideally I want a £30 (or less) per month contract, with an N95 8gb. I want a 12 month contract as well. Now I've been with Vodafone for 4 years (£20 a month but have had quite a few extremely large bills). Now I'm hoping they'll crack OR give me the phone @ £25 a month for 18 months. If not I'll jump ship to Three and get the £30 deal with free MSN and the like.

I know some Vodafone staff occasionally browse here, so it would be nice to hear from them as well as anyone else with Vodafone.

im on vodaphone at the moment. getting unlimited text plus lots of mins + vodaphone stop the clock for £35 a month. that was a new contract.

surely they should be able to give you that sort of thing of £30 + the free phone in march. i would have hoped. seeing as though you have been with them so long

Hi,

Working for Vodafone myself (although not in our sales or upgrades team) it's always a tough one to give upgrade advice over the internet :) It really would come down to contacting Vodafone where we'd have staff linked up to an upgrade system which they'd use to calculate deals based on the account itself (taking into account previous spend etc.)

Just for the record, it's always possible to get a cheaper deal on a 'new connection' compared to subsequent upgrade deals, although this works across the board for all airtime providers - you tend to get a discounted 'new connection' deal when you first take out your contract, then any upgrade deals that follow are based on the account spend that's taken place over the previous 12/18 months of airtime.

Many contracts these days do extend to 18 months rather than 12 months, the reason for this is based greatly around the current cost of mobile phones on the market. With the N95 8GB, for example, you'd have a multi-purpose multimedia device, a huge internal memory for songs on a par with most MP3 players, internet capabilities, inbuilt GPS, 5mp camera and impressive video recording.

Another factor influenced by the length of the contract is, the longer the contract the greater flexibillity in the number of extras that you can have as part of the package. The following link should give you a few ideas of what you could ask for when you speak to an upgrade advisor - they can then try and configure the deal as best as they can to suit your needs

Vodafone Extras Information - Text Packs, Vodafone Family, Mobile TV etc.

Finally, if you're thinking of upgrading you might find this new page on our website useful instead of a call to 191 or a trip into store, just follow the on-screen instructions

I hope that this goes some way to giving you some extra information ahead of contacting Vodafone about your upgrade. Any other questions please let me know

How does the online system work? I cannot afford £250 for the phone or to be tied in with a monstrous contract. Some how I doubt I'll get what I want, damn!

BTW - The guy at my local voda branch said I should go in after I've received my bill at the beginning of February and try and get an upgraded.

(contract finishes on the 11th may).

Just rung vodafone myself... not with much luck!!

Currently got a K800i on a £20 p/m contract as well... however my bills havn't really been anything less than £30 for ages, between June - December last year they were up to £70 p/m.

I went in armed with a deal from o2, i was requesting 400 mins/600 texts, free phone, £30 p/m, and some sort of data usage... to no avail! Cheeky beggers. Requested my PAC, when I get it i'll be off to Three I think.

Robert, the only issue I can find with Vodafone is their extortionate data rates and if you are going to get an N95 8Gb data is pretty important. They only off 120mb 'unlimited' this is atrocious! They are a great network in general but just be aware of the data! 3 or Tmobile are the best networks for data - you can get some excellent deals with 3 and the N95 8GB.

Also be aware in 1 or 2 months time the N96 will be coming out so dont be dissapointed when it does (then again there isnt a huuge difference between the two).

Glad I sent my N95 8GB on Vodafone back 2 days after receiving it. I've already clocked up 350MB in about 3 weeks. EmTube and Internet Radio are addictive when bored out and about.:D

Take it you went with three?

The only problem i'm finding with them is their crap texts/call minutes!!

With the N95 8gb they already want £15 p/m for the phone, then £15 p/m for their cheapest deal which is 300 mins OR texts, so effectivelly only 150 of both!?... bit crap IMO. So that's £30 for 18 month deal with 150 mins/txts... and no data? unless you do the X Silver.

Unless i'm completly looking in the wrong direction....

The n96 looks rubbish :E

I'm on a £25 month contract and I'm a very light user (have never gone over quota) in 18 months. I phoned upgrades, was told the story of the £250 so I waited until the next day and phoned cancellations. First thing I did was say, can I have my PAC please. Then came the question, 'ok, but why?' So I told them about the 3 deal and so he came back with, 'ok, one off fee of £40 for the phone on your £25 p/m contract - extension 18 months. I was looking an 8 month deal anyway, so snapped this up as it works out damn cheap for the length of contract. (I also took into account the fact I had 9 months half price line rental at the start of my contract - only supposed to have 6! but vodafone mucked up my contract so gave me more). Considering all this, I've been pretty lucky. Plus my K800i served me very well for the time I had it.

Yup, went with 3.

I'm on Mix and Match 500, so paying £18 and then £15 for the compulsory video minutes (£33). I've then added X-Series Silver at £5, taking my monthly bill to £38.

Contract suits me as my girlfriend is also on 3 (free £30 credit for referral), so when I call her I'll be using the 300 free 3 to 3 minutes. Then got 500 units to use as I please. Voicemail is free too.
