Getting the upgrade itch and looking at the 55" Samsung Q80T

I guess the question is has the tech moved on so much in the 4 years that it would be a noticeable upgrade?

Not looking at OLED due to the cost, worry about screen burn and finally having a 2 year old running riot! :p

Thanks

4K HDR has improved a lot.

Personally I'd try and go for the 65" to make it more worthwhile coming from a 49" although I did go from 50" to 55" in the bedroom as that's the biggest that would fit in-between the two doors on the wall and it was a noticeable upgrade however you acclimatise within 3-4 days to the point it looks normal.

Yeah similarly to you I'm stuck in terms of the space with 55 being a push! May hold off until I can get to see in person.

Going from rtings though the Q80T seems a solid purchase

Yeah it's a solid choice especially in terms of value for money.

It's likely the best or top 2 in terms of value for money. The amount of quality you get for the price is extremely good.

I think the best TV's to get are

LG oled
Q80T
TU8000
Sony XH90

There is no other choice that's worth it out with the above 4.

So yeah the Q80T is a solid choice.

@Psycho Sonny

Turns out I literally cannot fit a 55 so going to have to opt for a 49 variant although it sucks as it seems the 49 versions lose a lot of features! Torn between still getting the Q80T or the KD49XH9505BU

Any others I should be looking at?

That's an easy decision if it's purely picture get the Sony if it's ease of smart functionality get the Samsung.

Yeah think the Mrs would kill me if I forked out that much! Plus with a 2 year old boisterous lad running wild I'd rather not take my chances!

Wall mount?

A couple of years back I went to RS to buy an XE90 took the missus with me, that was a mistake... I ended up with a B7 oled instead at double the price she fell in love with the picture quality.

Yeah just wouldn't work in our living room (old property) ; maybe I'll wait until we can go browsing again and by some hope she falls for the same trick! :p

Even still with the 60hz panel on the 49?

I forgot about that smaller panel was inferior.

The only option is the oled then which for the 49" you are setting fire to money IMO the 55" is cheaper.

You could always get a cheap decent TV like the tu8000 and then a proper gaming monitor if you wanted.

Otherwise I'd really be going with the bigger screen.

It's a tough one but the oled is the only one which ticks all the boxes bar price.

You might need to bite the bullet.
