Upgrade-A-Noob!

Jesus seriously... if you're spending £328, and want £100 left, just buy this. and save yourself the hastle
http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FS-226-OK

I agree about the cooler, but the OP said 'Max £350'

£350-£370= £-20

£-20 =/= £100

Unless I missed something?

Anyway...OP you said 'MOBO: Just found a yellow sticker on the box with:

NF61S MicroAM2 SE'
Which is a Micro ATX board. Do you know what the case is or can you tell us whether there is a lot of space left in the case? If the case supports ATX boards then Stulid's build will be perfect, if not then you can either buy a new case or get another M-Atx board.

As for not wanting to do much to build it, there are lots of helpful people around this forum and aside from there being a full build guide, if you get stuck people will try to help you through it step by step.

If you really don't want to replace the motherboard, then a prebuilt machine would be best (an AM2 board will really limit your options).

why waste money on a whole new pc, when we can spec you for much less £££ a good upgrade.

but when he has a point its hard to disagree with what he says, abit like wasting money on a copy of win7 when a simple reinstall of the o/s will clean the system up nicely from years worth of junk.

especially when the OP states he has a DX10 4850 and only plays TF2!!!:D

I am not at all suggesting that the OP upgrades to Windows 7 to play DX10 games. I don't understand how you're failing to understand the extra usability of windows 7, along with the fact that if you're upgrading your computer, some people aren't bothered about all the fancy tech specs behind it, but purely want to use it for a system which is easy to use, and to get what you want done.
Windows 7 features many more advances over Windows XP ( which actually, I suggested Windows 7 over Vista, but... i'd suggest it over XP also ).
I picked up my copy for £40, now... you're suggesting this is a waste of money and a bad upgrade. Ok.

So, apart from the improved menu systems, sticking things to the sides of the screen, better resolution centre and lack of any backup features,.. what you're telling me is " It's just as fast ". Great,.. ok.. it may be on certain systems. Lets exclude solid state drives as we already know without me saying that it's another reason win 7 is better, but i'll assume this isn't in the OP's interest.

I'm just looking for the part where the OP said, I want it to zoom along, and don't give a rats about the usability of my system. I don't think that actually happened. So.. why do we have to jump to upgrading every bit of hardware, before making the system easier to use, more secure and more visually pleasing?
I stand by saying that windows 7 is a fantastic upgrade, maybe it won't put more Mhz on your clock or a increase your memory, but it will certainly make your computer a better experience, which is at the end of the day what we're after.

Now, with that out of the way, shall we be productive and suggest how the OP actually upgrades instead of barking new hardware items at him/her? I think it would be a lot better if we explained what the upgrades do, and how hard they are to install... rather than jumping on a post titled clearly "Upgrade" and telling them to build themselves a new computer.

Not really a whole new PC, as I have a GPU that I want to keep as I only bought it a few months ago.

I kinda want the extra RAM and Processor power as TF2 is a very CPU heavy game and I dabble in video editing and graphic design every so often.

But as I said, the cheapest way of doing it would be best, but, if there's another option where I might have to spend more, but it last longer in the long term, then go for it, I can wait a little longer to get something that will last 6 months longer.

If you guys recommended a new mobo then that's fine with me. I will pop open the PC case and take a photo inside for ya'll to see if anything can or cannot fit in etc.

the cheapest way is to either take RJC spec, or mine and add a £50 PSU to it, keep your current windows version, absolutely no need in changing it as Big.wayne pointed out in that other thread, it does everything you still need.

because improved menu systems really help!:D not.

Can only handle upto 2gb of RAM.

That's a problem. This is going to need a new motherboard.

I'm sure people around this forum will help you with guides as to how to upgrade it. I will if you need any of my help, i'll PM you my skype etc if you need.

Thing is, once you're doing the motherboard it's almost a new PC. I'd personally just sell it and buy the other one.
And,.. at the -£20 comment, if the OP will spend £350, lets be sensible, i'm sure £20 for an easier upgrade and a better system won't be too much of an issue.

I know, I just wasn't understanding how you were still having £100 left after that though :P
