Hello , We have an old Advent DT2110 ( spec below ) Its not used for gaming at all just MS office, graphics app called Picmonkey and streaming youtube. I dont think it needs anything fancy but i like the idea of the "RYZEN 3 3200G QUAD CORE 4.0GHZ (SOCKET AM4) APU WITH RX VEGA 8 GRAPHICS" if there is an equivalent Intel so I could keep the mobo.
The current performance is great for what I need but I am having trouble running the "Picmonkey" app, the developers for this app say its problem with video drivers or directx since the last Chrome update but also does not work on edge or firefox. The drivers are the latest available from 2016 so was looking for a quick fix

1TB mechanical hard drive

P.S, Thanks for all the interesting posts which are keeping me busy whilst self isolating

building a new system will massively increase performance, but will obviously cost a heck of a lot more.

The cheapest solution for you would probably be to upgrade the cpu to a used model.

*very important* You'll have to go to the motherboard manufacturers website, to see what cpu that board can accept/ if it needs a bios update to do so, but a used i5-3570, for about £25 or an i7-3770 for around £65 will massively improve performance all-round.

Also chucking in even a small (120gb) ssd for about £20 will hugely improve snappiness (as long as you have a free sata port to connect it).

Changing to SSD for operating system and programs would be only upgrade I would do that.
Beyond that no matter what you do it simply won't become modern.

Ivy Bridge was minor update comparable to Zen+ and should cost at most pocket money.
Especially when Intel switched from soldering heatspreader in Sandy Bridge to using cheap bubblegum/toothpaste, which could need replacing.

OK guys, thanks for the feedback, As I will not be playing games on this machine I will try the SSD and CPU but could I add a video card to try and get around the app issues with video drivers.
I have not kept up with building PCs for many years, last I built was a super "Pentium E2200 2.2GHz Dual-Core CPU" when ****** first started online, I am surprised at the bargains listed on this site so I will probably also replace the other PC in the house and build one from scratch

thanks for the help.

This is completely true, having said that, what would your recommendation be for the OP?

That motherboard does support an i7-3770, but that may not solve your Picmonkey problem. If the problem is indeed Chrome and DirectX then a cheap GPU seems the better way forward.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £91.69 (includes shipping: £8.70)

That said, I do think that a whole new system is probably a better longer term bet:

You should be able to re-use the existing case. Otherwise, pick one you like.

That i5 is quite old but still perfectly fine for stuff you have described. Totally agree with the guy above about just putting in a cheap GPU to solve the video driver issues. In fact, you should have no issues after that.

Would also consider an SSD, even if it was just a £20 120GB one to use as a boot drive and use the original drive for storage. It would actually make a way bigger improvement to speed than any new processor would when you are using an old mechanical drive.
