An 8 thread CPU would help in some games, if you can pick up a cheap i7 or Xeon. They can be less than £50 for a top-end model.
16GB RAM would be helpful, maybe get a single 8GB module and run 3 sticks (2x4 in one channel, 1x8 in the second).
As you say, it's pretty decent for older games already, so don't go and blow £200+ on it.
