Upgrade Advice Needed

Ok getting there very slowly but wanted to take my time so dont screw things up, anyway come to the graphic card and i see on the mobo theres two pci-e slots one is 8 and the other is 16, ive looked in mobo manual but it doesnt say which one the card should slot into so here i am again asking for help and im really sorry for this i know im a pain, while im at it i still have to install the sata dvd and hd, the hd will be my main, but i have 2*200gig ides which i was going to slap in the tower, as i see theres a IDE connection but what i wanted to know how do i make them both slave drives as on the ide cable it says master and slave and i want 2 masters as the sata hd will be the master, so again any advice will be very helpfull, again im sorry i keep posting but this is first ever build so i dont want to break somethink before i power on which should be tomorrow morning fingers crossed, anyway many thanks for those that have helped me so far, very gratefull.

cheers

Hi there.

Sorry about this but totaly stuck when it comes to sata etc, i have to install a sata dvd and a sata hdd but totaly lost, i have 2 cables which says at one end for hd and then other serial ata, and another 2 that says serial ata at both ends !, also when i look in the mobo manual it does tell you how to install these deviced, also when i look at the mobo it self i see *2 (Gsata) and then some other (sata connections) labeled 1 to 5 in the manual, so wondering which i use to coonect master dvd rom, and master hdd, then as i said above id like to know how i add maybe 2 IDE hds but how do i set them both to slaves, as the ide cable one says slave and the other says master but at min not in a rush with the ides just now, as want to try get my new system up and running today, i did also ask about the PCI-E graph card as theres two slots on my mobo 1 says 8 and other says 16 again manual for both mobo and graph card doesnt say which port i should use for better performance, but some1 did say put it in the 16 slot, is that ok !.

Anyway i hope some1 can help, but what i will say is im sorry about posting when i get stuck but this is my first ever PCI-E system and SATA so need all the help i can get as i dont want to screw the mobo or any of the components up.

Thx

Ps hope u can make out what i mean as i rubbish at explaining stuff and posting lol

PPs I have a SATA Bracket do i need to install this or can i leave it out ? Thx

On the sata cables can go in either way, you might have one angled and the other end straight? if thats the case plug the angled end into the device.
On the motherboard you can plug the SATA devices into any of the yellow slots, Itend to use the lower numbers for hd's ie 1-3 and higher numbers for dvd drives, you don't have to do this.

You can organise boot priority in the bios, on the ide drives you probably get away with master/slave again you should double check the boot priority within the bios.

The gpu will be fine in the 16x slot.

Ok all is installed and using it at the min, seems to be ok and also added the spare IDE hd, but what i want to know esp from people who have to same mobo as me, is what software on the disk u recommend i install, already done the chipset etc, i would be gratefull also i need a new headset for gamin but money now is very low and wonderd what u guys and girls recommend, as my mobo supposed to have really good onboard sound, anyway RJC just wana thank you for your help very gratefull, as i say ive installed it all and not sure if i shud change anythink in the bios or leave it as it is, and also brought vista 64 slapped it on and if any setting there i need to do please help, other then that have to see how things go, all being well it will work brill when under gaming and pressure, but anyway thank for those who helped me when i got stuck, and a big thanks again to RJC :)

Glad it's up and running, no poblems in helping at all :)

Once you installed the chipset drivers and varous other drivers for the Sound and LAN that's all what I installed on my Gigabyte X58 - UD5.

Once Vista is installed let it do any updates and start installing games :) , as time goes on you will start adding software and making changes.

One thing you may need to do is check the voltage, speed and timmings for the memory in the BIOS, double check the manual as this will show what's what :).

I dont have a clue when it comes to the bios, have sorted of looked at manual for mobo but doesnt say much so maybe i shud leave it as it is !!!

I dont think my graph card is working, as in vista u can check performance and i get a subscore of 1.0, anyway i can find out if this graph card is compatible with this mobo (see above).

Means this is the first ever build i can i test it to see if its stable, i currently cant test sound as my headset is screwed but wanted to find out if my new system runs without any problems but not sure how to test it thats if its possible, anyway cheers :)

Noticed in problem reports i have a few issues :(

Hi

Just been lookin in the bios (didnt touch anythink) but i noticed in (pc health status) most things are disabled is that right or not if not what needs to be changed !, my mobo is a (gigabyte GA-MA790XT-UD4P).

Sorry to be a pain but alittle worried incase my bios isnt set up correct and i dont have a clue.

Cheers

The gpu will be fine for the motherboard, have you downloaded and installed the latest drivers for your card from ATI (AMD) website.

If you have installed the drivera, you probably need to re-run the Vista score as it originaly does this when you finished installing Vista and no drivers installed.

Don't worry about the BIOS for the time being :)

Ok got a problem on bootup i get the following message....

BOOTMNG is missing

press ctrl, alt and del

i get this message everytime, can some1 please help me.

thx

Double check your boot sequence in the BIOS, it might be looking at one of your ide hd's.

Ive noticed if i press f12 at startup it brings a boot sequence up, then i select hdd, and then select my main and vista starts up properly but then when i reboot i get the same message about the "BOOTMNG missing" how do i select it so it always starts from my master hd !?
