Upgrade advice - new CPU needed?

I am posting for a friend (who I play online with).

He has just upgrade an old graphics card to a moderate GB 7850 2mb WF.

His performance in BF3 (for example) is still not great.

From what I can understand his other hardware consists of:

CPU: q6600 core 2 quad
Ram: 16gb
Mobo: Asus P5q3 (old I think)

My GPU knowledge is ok, older CPU/Mobo understanding is poor and hence not fair to give advice.

Should he just change CPU (what will work with this Mobo), or should he change mobo to enable a better CPU.

Help as ever appreciated.

According to Asus website that motherboard is DDR3, so his current ram should be fine.

Q6600's were decent Overclockers, has he tried that?
Might be worth a try tather than shelling out a laoda cash to play a dross game

Yep .... original machine looks ok and my first point of call would be to upgrade the gpu before attempting a platform change

Sorry, for lack of info - have sent link to friend with a view to him filling in details. I do not know if CPU is O/C, unlikely.

With new card he is getting lows 30FPS with lowish settings, which tells me GPU must be help back a lot.

I will ask him to post more, and look at overclocking.
