Hi All

I need to upgrade my CPU/MOBO/RAM and gfx card my budget is £600 don't mind it its AMD or Intel just want the best bang for the buck for gaming.

My current System is

1 x Intel 730 Series 480GB SSD
1x 1TB Seagate HD
1 x 970 GTX
16gb ram (cant remember the make)
Intel I5-2500k Stock cooler
Antec TruePower Classic 650w '80 Plus Gold' Power Supply
Antec midi Tower case.

I plan to put my current CPU/MOBO/RAM and gfx card in my sons PC

I would go with something like this but I'm sure that some of the more experienced guys here can spec you a better build, I am personally running this build (with older CPU) and am very satisfied with it, playing at 1080p I can run most games at High/Ultra.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £601.05 (includes shipping: £11.10)

Thanks Patberts just realised I had missed the 1TB had off my current rig so might put that towards some more RAM to get it to 16gb

How do the 3gb 1060s compare to the 4gb 970s ? I'm just wondering if there isn't much in it whether I should buy a 2nd hand 970 and put the savings into the extra RAM or a new case?

if you can stretch little more and get it all new

theres all this

or you can save a little by just doing 8gb ram, but if your use to 16gb go for that and maybe slighty cheaper graphics card

They are roughly the same, I would say that the 1060 is a bit better but if you can make big savings and get a 970 at a decent price and spend money on other parts then I would say go for it.

Since it looks like you are fine with buying second-hand I have a 1060 3gb that I'm looking to sell for a decent price.

I would look at a stronger PSU. If I remember from a previous spec, the that would consume about 400w-420w.

It will run but leaves very little headroom.

Honestly , having done a thread on here from jumping from first gen intels to 6th gen ( Ryzen performance can be credited more or less the same ), I gained a good amount of FPS using a variety of cards .
Get the core system, as mentioned above Ryzen price will increase , guessing the ram (team Group 3000hz 16gb) and Gaming 3 board will do ! That's something like £60 that can be used else were. See how you get on with the CPU upgrade, then work out if you can justify cost of new or second hand card

If you are gaming at 1080p, think you might end up keeping your 970 ;)

Thanks for your advice all. I went for the following in the end:

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £477.62 (includes shipping: £11.70)

I went for the corsair case as I wanted front facing USB and audio ports. As suggested I will hold off on the gfx card for the moment and see how my 970 does :-)
