Hey Guys,

Seeking some advice as i havent upgraded my PC for a while, and i havent really looked into the latest changes with AMD and Intels Heswall systems. Being lurking for a few days and seem some great advice so figured i would ask for some.

My Current Setup

Samsung 250GB Sata 3/GB (really old)

ASROCK A790GMH/128M 790GX Socket AM3 HDMI DVI VGA 8 Channel Audio MATX Motherboard

Kingston 4GB (2x2GB) DDR3 1333MHz i5 Memory Kit CL9 1.5

AMD Athlon II X3 440 3GHz Socket AM3 1.5MB (3x512KB)

Geforce GTX460

Originally salavaged my old case and some parts to keep costs low while i was at uni, but now im looking to improve and spend a little more. I dont need a OS, Monitor, keyboard or Mouse. It will be running Windows 7 Pro. I do a little online gaming, Planetside 2, Team Fortress 2, and they run fine currently. I also play a lot of Football Manager, which seems slow at times(not sure if that vcan really be improved. It would be nice if i can play the latest games but im realistic and know my budget may not make this possible.

The motherboard and processor were budget buys at the time, but the motherboard had OC built in which helped at times so i know they are gone. If I can could update the Motherboard, Processor and SSD HD for now, and it still be good enough for a GFX and RAM update next year would be the perfect sernario.

£400 for Mobo, Processor and HD. Can go to £650 for oextra parts.

A 7950 will be better as it comes with free games plus has 3gb vram vs 2gb and 384bit vs 256bit memory interface

£35 more but the 'free' shipping with the card means its only £25 or so more than your spec, if only the op had asked a couple/few days back as it was £15 cheaper till this morning.

Oh and retail CPU as its not much more but 2yrs extra warranty.

I would perhaps suggest that the R9270X may not be as good as a 7950, but it's difficult to tell at the moment. I have read that the R9270X is based off the 7850 architecture, plus it has 1/3 less RAM (not the worst compromise to keep the cost down...)

I would think that once the new AMD cards are fully released there may be some good deals to be had on 7950s.

There have already been good deals on the 79xx cards, doubt there will be much cheaper than some of the offers that have already been available.

Thanks for the advice guys!

Having looked, i think i want more but I'm not going to be able to do it in one go. So for now, do you think i would get away with picking up a Well vented case(mid tower size) a good mobo that will last a couple of years and a cheap processor to do me a couple of months until i can upgrade the rest?

You should be able to pick up a decent enough PSU for £60 on here. Somewhere around the 500-600W mark would suffice for your build in its current form unless your looking to go SLI at a later date.
