I have an 8-year old PC that I’m looking to upgrade – I had planned to replace it this year, but times being what they are, I’m trying to limit my costs for now. Having never done this before, I have some questions that I hope someone can help me with.

I mainly use the PC for work, with limited gaming, and looking to add extra RAM and upgrade the graphics card. The current set-up is as follows:

CPU: i5-3570 (3.4GHz) 6MB Cache
Motherboard: ASUS P8H61-MX
RAM: 8GB SAMSUNG DUAL-DDR3 1600MHz (1 X 8GB) (M378B1G73BH0-CH9)
GPU: 1GB NVIDIA GEFORCE GT 610

If I want to add a second 8gb memory card, does this have to be identical? I have searched for an identical Samsung memory card, but these seem difficult to find, and I’m wondering whether I need to pay for 2 new memory cards and ditch the old one.

The second question relates to the graphics card – I was planning to swap to a GTX 1050 card. The only one in stock is the Palit Geforce GTX 1050TI STORMX 4096MB. Is that going to be compatible?

Any advice gratefully received.

The memory doest have to be identical but the closet you can get would be better so another 8 gb of the same speed.

The 1050ti should work and just plug straight in but remember to unistall the old drivers before you install the gpu and then install the latest drives
