Hi all, I have an ageing PC I built a number of years ago (for my 50th, as I was getting money from all my family), but I've started to notice a few AAA games and processing video files is taking ages
Here is my set up, what I need help with is a route to upgrade in pieces, as I can only afford to do it in blocks of approx £500, per section.
When I built this it was considered mid/upper mid level gaming PC. I could play every game on the highest settings with high FPS, and the fans only came on quietly.
Now it's like a jet engine going off the fans have to struggle to keep it cool.
• CoolerMaster MasterBox TD500 Mesh
• AOC C24G2AE/BK 24" monitor
• be quiet! Pure Power 11 500W 80 Plus Gold Modular Power Supply
• Corsair Vengeance LPX Black 16GB (2x8GB) 3600 MHz AMD Ryzen Tuned DDR4 Memory Dual Kit
• AMD Ryzen 5 3600
• MSI MPG B550 GAMING EDGE WIFI Motherboard
• MSI Radeon RX 5700 XT 8GB MECH OC Graphics

So is there a upgrade motherboard that will run what I have, but will open me up to the newer types of ram DDR5, and CPU, etc?

Thanks

we're talking about 6-7 years old now, tech has (obviously) moved on

probably because of chronological age more than anything else, have you dusted the case/innards?
more than likely the thermal paste on the cpu and graphics card have dried out/pumped out...so these no longer provide a good thermal contact patch

what do you need upgrading first? the cpu portion or the gpu portion?
what about ssd space?

I'd recommend looking into and trying to sort that first. If you run task manager and hwinfo alongside your games and video work, it should show you if the PC is overheating/throttling and if there is a bottleneck with maybe the RAM usage.

Which AAA games are you having problems with, specifically?

AM4 CPUs like your 3600 can't use DDR5.

It would help to know more clearly where the primary bottleneck is in your games/video work, because trying to do everything for £500 is not possible.

For around £500 you could get a 2nd hand 5700x CPU, will need to update the bios first. And also get a 9060xt 16gb.

That might be your best bang for buck you can get at this point.
