Hi guys, my 1st post here, i hope i can get some advices for my next upgrade, this is my pc spec atm,

Thermaltake Armour Super Tower Case
Enermax Galaxy850v Power supply
AMD FX62 2.8G processor
Zalman CPU cooling fan
Asus Crosshair MB
Corsair 4GB Dominator rams
Asus GeForce 8800 GTX HTDP 768MB GDDR3 Graphic card

now i would like to know if changing the processor to a let say Intel Core 2 Duo E6700 "LGA775 Conroe" 2.67GHz will make it more powerful and faster than my FX62 setup? or should i go for a Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition QX6800 "LGA775 Kentsfield" 2.93GHz, if so what MB is good for the Intel Core 2 Duo processor? not the Asus P5N32-E SLi nForce 680 (Socket 775) PCI-Express DDR2 as i already have this MB in my other system and it had problem of excepting the 4th bar of ram to make the system to a total of 4GB (so i have it on 3GB of rams atm).

any advices will be very welcome
Best Regards
Tony

Have a look at the E6600, with a good cooler, Noctua or Tuniq imo. I'm not sure about the 680 - you're not looking at sli, and some may have probs with 4GB (?). maybe take a look at a P35 mobo - which won't do sli afaik :) .

Either cpu will outperform your current setup.

Thank guys for the advices, if Intel going to have a price drop, i may go for the Intel Core 2 Quad Extreme Edition QX6800, just need to find a Mb to match it up,

Thank for the Welcome Big.Wayne, my budget atm is around £500, I already have a spare E6700 which i could use, and by looking at the posts regarding the new P35 mobo, im pretty temped on getting one, but regarding on any new boards, do i need new rams too? i have 4gb of pc2 6400 XMS2 dominator running at standard 4-4-4-12 (not OC yet), do i need DDR2-pc2 8500+ rams? and what the performance different bewteen Geil and Corsair? (seen everyone here are running on Geil) are Geil that much better? and what about DDR3? worth the money?

thank for the advices guys

Tony
