Hi all,

Current pc spec is:

Intel Core i7-8700
GIGABYTE B360 AORUS GAMING 3 WIFI
32gb Corsair DDR4-2666
NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Ti
Corsair HX1000 PSU

I think it's time for a CPU upgrade - what are my options please?

Many thanks
A[L]C

Do you have a budget at all and what do you use the PC for?

Are you keeping anything like the PSU\3080 or do you want to do a full system upgrade?

If you game, what res do you play at?

I believe I'm cpu bottlenecked so just motherboard, CPU and ram I guess as I don't think I can upgrade the CPU much on this board? I think the psu and GPU are ok. Game at 1440p.

Budget not too important but best value for the performance really.

It's a shame the pricing on the 7800X3D is so weird at the moment. You used to be able to pick one of those up for about £330.

A 7600 is a good shout and gives you an upgrade path in the future. You should be able to get one of those, a board, and 32GB of RAM for under about £400-450. For solely gaming purposes I've never noticed a difference between my 12600K and 12700K which are 6 and 8 cores respectively.

then i'd say ryzen 7600 (or 7700 if you need 8 cores)

the mobo and ram would be the same regardless of cpu 7600/7700/9800x3d
Thanks! That's good, so I'd have an upgrade path which is great. Any recommendations on mobo/ram please?

On all cores, or just one?
Can't say I've noticed, will check next time

I recently upgraded my 9600K to a 7600X and I'm very happy with the upgrade. Some games I've seen huge improvements in but the system just seems much smoother overall.

I got these from Overclockers;

AMD Ryzen 5 7600X
MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WIFI
Kingston FURY Beast EXPO 32GB DDR5 6000MHz

You could definitely get some of the pieces cheaper elsewhere but for ease I just ordered from Overclockers direct, it was only a few quid more. I'd probably recommend just getting the 7600 and not the 7600X if you don't have a beefy cooler as you probably won't see any benefit.

I'd go B650. The Asus TUF boards seem solid or you could go for something like the MSI Tomahawk for another £10 as of now on Overclockers.

As for RAM, the cheapest DDR5 32GB CL30 6000 kit you can get your hands on. In my experience that's usually the Corsair Vengeance or Kingston Fury stuff. I've got the Corsair in both of my systems and it's given me no issues.

definitely. i picked up mine on the used market and spent only £390 for the whole combo (cpu+mobo+ram)
what a deal

That was an absolute steal.

£391. Final offer.

yeah something like this

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £224.98 (includes delivery: £0.00)

The 7500f is a good option, I do have one in the MM. Essentially a 7600 without the GPU.

I recently went from 10700k to 9800X3D and I'm very happy with the upgrade.

No one should be paying close to £200 for a 7600 these days, ignore that. Either wait for the market to settle down and get a 7800x3D, B650, DDR5 6000MT/s C30, or buy a sub £150 imported R7 7700 OEM, now with B650 and same RAM.
