Hello!

My PSU decided to pop its clogs my specs are: (copied from my first ever thread on Overclockers lol)

Specs on mine:
Zalman MS800 Plus Midi Tower Case
Gigabyte ATi Radeon HD 7950 Windforce 3X 3072MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card
Intel Core i5-3570K 3.40GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor
ASRock Z77 Extreme4 Intel Z77 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Motherboard
Corsair 2013 Edition Gamer Series GS 600W '80 Plus Bronze' Power Supply
Adata Premier Pro SP900 64GB 2.5" SATA 6Gb/s Solid State Hard Drive
Seagate Barracuda 7200RPM 1TB SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache
Corsair Vengeance Low Profile 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3
Prolimatech Megahalems Rev C CPU Cooler (With two Xigmatek Orange Line 120mm White LED Fans, the overclockers edition one)
LiteOn IHAS124-04 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter

So I'll be buying a new PSU. As I live in Gibraltar getting one here is extortionate, and I thought if I was going to buy online I might as well upgrade things a bit.

So I need a new PSU, and a new SSD (500gb please). So any suggestions?

Also is there anything else worth upgrading? I'll likely get some new peripherals also.

I should add I use my pc for work related stuff... and quake. I don't play any other games... so not really sure if it's worth upgrading anything else?

Might as well say suggestions for:

PSU
SSD
Mouse
Keyboard
Mousemat (lol)

so not really sure if it's worth upgrading anything else?

Maybe a second HDD for backup unless you are using external for that. Maybe 8GB more DDR3 RAM if your usage comes close to max. It's cheap just now. Well, some kits are.

PSU: aim for SuperFlower Leadex or EVGA Supernova GS/G2. 550W will do for your rig. I'd be tempted to get 650W just in case you add something requiring more power in future.

SSD: what Dreamcat4 said. I just picked up a BX100 this week to give something other than Samsung a try.

Maybe something like this?

- No idea of your budget
- Can vouch for the PSU and SSD - if you need the space and have the money, go for the 500GB version
- Peripherals are your choice
- If you have the budget, go for a Mechanical Cherry Red keyboard i.e. Corsair K75 RGB
- Mouse mat depends on your desk and what size. But I can recommend the OcUK branded mats of all sizes.

Thanks all!

Edit: Should have added that I currently have/had razer gear, razer hard mouse mat, death adder and blackwidow. But don't like the keyboard much and the mouse gets stuck all the time. The mouse mat (hard mouse mat) I love! But it's too small for me and my sens in Quake hence got a bigger one :)

Went for the SSD on offer and the superflower:

Sounds good, enjoy. Ouch @ £60 shipping, I feel for you...

The HyperX SSD deal is a steal, don't blame you.

Thanks! And yup, sucks being in Gibraltar sometimes. I get VAT back but then pay it all on shipping! (and have to pay customs tax on arrival :( ) Wish OCUK offered a second cheaper shipping method for us.

And yeah I had been looking at the 500gb evo but the price difference was just surprising.

Random question is it going to cause me any pain trying to install windows on the new ssd? Can I use the same CD I did to install it originally on mine (If I can find it)? I thought it was 'locked' to the Motherboard or something and that I could install it on a new hard drive but as long as the other specs are the same? Basically the 64gb SSD I bought to just have windows on it wasn't really enough for anything :D

Yeah should be no problem at all. Worse case scenario, you may have to do telephone activation with Microsoft as the key may already be 'locked'.

Only thing really to check before installing Windows, is that your motherboard's SATA mode in the BIOS is set to AHCI and not IDE.
