Main usage is gaming and watching media ( big TV and film fan )

Looking to spend around £500 on an upgrade (a soft limit, can increase if its justifiable)

Current PC is as follows...

Intel Core2Duo E8400
8Gb ram
Asus P5Q Pro M/B
M4 Solid State Primary (plus a couple of secondary drives used for storage).
ATI Radeon HD 5850 Gfx
42 inch HD TV/monitor
5.1 surround sound speaker system

The Upgrade

What I was thinking about was moving the 42 inch to a new location ( in front of the sofa/bed ) and using it for watching media, still connected to the PC via a long HDMI cable. Then I'm considering setting up a multi-monitor desktop for gaming and general use. I'm a bit torn between getting 2 x 27 Inch monitors and maybe an upgraded GFX card, or 3 x 24 inch and getting a 2nd hand 5850 to run in crossfire and running eye infinity.

Then with regards to the Mobo/Processor/RAM I'm looking at upgrading them together when Microsoft release the new version of windows (i believe end of this year start of next year). The processor has a Thermalright Ultra-120 Extreme CPU Cooler on it and is incredible at overclocking (one of the "wolfdale" chips, can easy hit GHz with very little stress and no extra heat build up), so I can squeeze more power out of that if it start to bottleneck the system.

i have a few questions though. will 1 GFX card be able to power two 27 inch (1080p) and a 42 inch (1080p) all right or will i have problems in games with the extra workload from the other monitors?

Also will 2 x 5850's be able to power a 3 monitor eye infinity plus a 4th monitor? has anyone else had any experience with these kinds of set ups? is the trade off between monitor size and desktop/gaming retail space worth it?

thoughts/ideas/suggestions?

no advice?

I'm starting to lean towards getting an upgraded GFX to help improve the game fps and smooth over any slight problems i might have with running the extra resolution. maybe something like this...

and then leaving my current card in as a non-crossfired GFX to run the TV screen.

Would dropping down in screen size and putting more money in to the GFX give me a better result? maybe something like this...

i'd look at the 6950 for the dual monitor setup ,with the 5850 for the tv.

if your looking to go eyefinity i'd look at crossfiring the 6950 and link it with the processor upgrade.

screen wise i'd go the 24" route.
