I currently have a duel core 6600, I need some more FPS for Badcompany 2. I dont want to have to replace my motherboard yet again so I was looking at http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=CP-281-IN to replace it.

It the same socket and my Abit IP35 pro mb manual says it supports quad core so in theory it should just slot in. Will the Q4800 be a worthwhile upgrade and give me that much needed boost for Bad Company or am I just wasting £££'s?

thx

Do you overclock as you have a great board to do so...
If you are running the CPU at stock, then the Q8400 at stock will be a little better as BFBC:2 will use the extra cores, however, you could save money and just OC that E6600 to 3-3.2ghz and get a big boost...
Better still, get a Q6600 in and OC it past 3ghz and the game will run much better (depending on your VGA card).

The CPU support list for your board turns up two of these cpus.

D0 stepping says its still being tested. Wont ever happen now with abit pulling out of the market, and the age of the board.

C0 is ok, need bios 17.

I've not tried OCing, I guess i could give it a try, the graphics card is a XFX 8800 GTX.
