Here's situation I'm in atm.
Please bare with me.;)
Budget is very much depending on how hard this upgrade might be. But let's say around £300-500 cheaper the better.

My current system as in SIG. is getting very old now. Upgrading graphics card has helped a lot but long term games like bf4 going to need upgrades to work.

My issue Is that I'll need to completely overhaul My system. It's a water cooled system so couple of issues there too.

Here's what I need help with.
Ill need to completely take my system apart to replace all the parts and need a new CPU water cooling block as mine won't fit any of the new motherboards Lol

I think it would be better to upgrade cpu/board/memory tbh, could go for a q6600 quadcore and another 4gb of ram but ddr2 is expensive?

other than that maybe skip to haswell

if I was you, I'd get 4770K, Z87 Sniper Board and 8GB RAM for around £420.

you can save by going 4670K, but I'd stretch to 4770K.

that would serve as a good base for the next upgrade, which should be GPU, PSU and possibly case /and SSD/

Thousand tiny words :P.

Here is what I would go with, tried to fit it in with your theme and keep it under budget.

YOUR BASKET
1 x Intel Core i7-4770K 3.50GHz (Haswell) Socket LGA1150 Processor - Retail £263.99
1 x MSI Z87-G43 Gaming Series Intel Z87 (Socket 1150) DDR3 ATX Motherboard £109.99
1 x TeamGroup Vulcan RED 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-17100C11 2133MHz Dual Channel Kit (TLD38G2133HC11ADC01) £69.95
1 x EK Water Blocks EK-Supremacy - Acetal + Nickel £52.99
Total : £506.52 (includes shipping : £8.00).

Thanks for replies. I'm looking into how I'm going to upgrade with my water cooling system that I have ( friend put it in) and looks rather scary trying to remove/drain then refill..

Might have to get someone to do it for me. Out of interest why no ATI boards? Intel seen very expensive for what you get.

Thanks though. And yes very tiny
