Well! With mass effects recommended specs announced I think it's about time I got an upgrade. I'm a fair bit out of date with whats currently "winning" in terms of benchs and what tech is due around the corner. Will likely order in one month due to tax year, so if there's anything major due in that period please let me know!

Current rig:

i5 2500k, @3.9ghz
16gb 1600mhz
670 gtx

2x 1920x1200 IPS @60hz

Not sure what PSU I am using, will likely need replacing.

I'm guessing I'll need to fork out a grand, but if less is an option let me know. Max budget will probably be £1500. Want to include or at least allow a NVME SSD for OS to replace my current small os SSD. Will also add a 144hz monitor later on for FPS gaming.

Case+peripherals all good to keep. Need a fresh OS install so might need a new copy of windows?

Why dont you just add a new GPU and do a little more OC on your CPU and you will probably find your system can run it fine unless you really want a full update.

Wasn't able to get much more out of this chip regarding OC, and I'm wary the 6 year old CPU would bottleneck a 1080ti (if I went for that). The CPU is already the bottleneck with gaming now I think about it, Siege hits 100% and I've got most CPU intensive options off!

The system specs for ME:A seem super heavy so a full new rig seems like the way to go. I also need a fresh OS install due to various issues with my current setup and I've been putting it off for an upgrade.

Does anyone have a link to a comprehensive comparison of the 7700k vs ryzen? I can't find much. Also, is there a particular ram speed that is the way to go at the moment? I've thrown a few bits together but I'm out of touch with current trends.

Gone for a SLI board to allow for later upgrades, same reason for 2x8 ram

Edit: Would that PSU support SLI 1080ti?

If it has an FX cpu as an alternative and a 1060 it can't be that heavy of a game surely? Not something for my system obviously as it doesn't match near the minimum listed, but still......

As I said in the first post, I'm likely to grab a 3rd monitor, so not overkill when that happens. It's sounding like Mass Effect will be very demanding too, their recommended is a 1060 and that is only to hit min 30fps on high settings at 1080p. I'd love to play it ultra at 60+

Plus future proofing, don't want to be buying a new gpu every 2 years. Want this rig to last 5+

Cheers for that review link, 7700K seems to be the way to go!

Yeah fair point on the 1060, but still the fx is old even if it is 8 core and I've seen many people advised to upgrade from them, so there must be some good level of performance to be had, Suppose then you will need a 1080 as I don't think the 480 would match it unless that game favours amd, only played 1st & 2nd for an hour each, not appealing to me and sadly I won't be joining the new one either, even just to test my system against it ha, I dislike the chosen 3rd person, it looks exactly like gears of war and that same reason put me off that game.
