hi i want to change my motherboard & processor , i have intel i5 but was looking at going with amd. i have looked at this processor -

Piledriver FX-8 Eight Core 8350 Black Edition 4.00GHz (Socket AM3+) Processor - Retail

now i just need a motherboard that will have good specs but within £100 range , it will be mainly used for video editing with some online browser gaming & found this

990X-Gaming SLI AMD 990X (Socket AM3+) DDR3 Motherboard

i already have 16gb DDR3 RAM so i want to use that for now as i cant afford to upgrade to DDR4 , any help or opinions would be appreciated.

not sure if an overclocked bundle would be within my budget of £250 or just buy seperate

Hi and welcome to the forums. :)

That would be a downgrade and a big mistake. It's a ancient dead platform that has now been replaced by AM4 and Ryzen. What i5 and motherboard do you have?

Operating System
Windows 10 Pro 64-bit
CPU
Intel Core i5 750 @ 2.67GHz 74 °C
Lynnfield 45nm Technology
RAM
16.0GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 662MHz (9-9-9-24)
Motherboard
Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. P55-US3L (Socket 1156) 46 °C
Graphics
SMB2230H (1920x1080@60Hz)
1024MB ATI AMD Radeon HD 5570 (XFX Pine Group) 74 °C
Storage
465GB MD05000-BJDW-RO ATA Device (SATA) 48 °C
931GB SAMSUNG HD103SJ ATA Device (SATA) 40 °C
Optical Drives
ASUS DRW-24F1MT ATA Device
Audio
Realtek High Definition Audio

thats what i have so any advice on better processor with mobo is what im after , graphics are ok for now

Is this a gaming pc? If so, while the cpu and motherboard are a few years old now you would get a much bigger boost by replacing that 5570. It wasn't a particularly good card when launched and is just hopelessly outclassed by low-mid end modern cards. Is that i5 750 overclocked at all? You should get 3.8-4ghz out of it with a decent cooler. If you still want to upgrade the cpu and motherboard I would be looking at picking up a Pentium G4560, B250 motherboard and 8/16Gb of DDR4 with a view to being able to drop a i5 or i7 in at a later date. If you plan on getting a unlocked i5/i7 later on I would get a Z270 motherboard so that they can be overclocked. You are not going to get much else for £250 these days.

no not a gaming pc just video editing & online browser game , rest is just net browsing. im not sure how to overclock it but that would be a good option , so if i changed graphics card & got decent cooler then i could sort the overclocking out. just need advice on cooler + graphics card now

This changes things a bit. Does the software you use make use of the gpu or is it mainly on the cpu. If it's mainly on the cpu then AMD will be launching the next set of Ryzen cpu's next week, the R5 series. With 6 cores and 12 threads it would probably suit your purposes better although it would blow your £250 budget out of the water. You are probably better off waiting for someone to come along who does video editing (I don't) to advise you better.

Are you on the stock Intel cpu cooler at the moment? To overclock your i5 750 a mid-range cooler will be more than enough so have a look at the Coolermaster Hyper EVO 212 which is a much recommended cooler on here. It's on offer at the moment as well.

My basket at Overclockers UK:

Total: £32.34
(includes shipping: £7.39)
