Im running 2x 9800GX2's at the moment, but they are starting to feel a bit sluggish.

What would be a descent upgrade, i hardly ever run them in SLi mode as when i do i get the lovely crackly sound, but even when i do theres not a massive performance boost.

I was thinking do i get 2x 295gtx's or do i wait for dx 11 cards?

how long are the dx11's gonna be? whether to go ati or nvidia?

i have a asus p6t6 board so can run crossfire or sli

Any thoughts?

Many thanks

if you still want a quad chip set up go for the 2x4870x2 if you just want good performance and save some money for dx11 get 2x275's as these will clock to 285 specs and in some benchmark the 285 sli setup will beat 295gtx's in quad sli and 2 of them will cost you less than one 295gtx and wait till dx 11

don't get two GTX295s its pretty much two GTX275s anyway
and its bloody expesnive

or get a HD4870X2 unless you pefer Nvida

I'm runnning 3x 24" monitors at the moment :)

Yea im interestid in any cheap suggestions to get me by at the moment, I've always had Nvidia, but thats only because when i goto buy a gfx card the nvidia one always seem to be on top at that time, but im open to Ati, i just want the fastest thing for my money, that wont cost an arm and a leg but will see me through till the DX11 cards are out.

I hardly ever run Sli as i mentioned, so somthing that is better than a single GX2 is I guess what im after :P Ati or nvidia i dont mind :)

4870X2 i was suggested by a mate? but isnt there are newer model?

Many thanks

In the best case for the GX2, I'd expect 2xGX2s to be faster than 2GTX275s, however in the average case, the GTX275s would win (quad SLI doesn't always scale very well, and there are a couple of games the GX2 does curiously badly in.)

To see a significant increase in performance you would need 2 GTX295s. I'd wait, in less than 6 months you'll be able to get a pair of Nvidia or ATI cards that togeather will be at least as powerful as 2GTX295s, cost less, and support DX11.

GX2 is only two 9800GTX in SLI thats all it basicly is

Which is enough to equal or beat a GTX280 in many cases. I've had a GX2 and a GTX280, in several games I got a faster maximum frame rate on the GX2 than the GTX280, but the GTX280 tended to give higher minimum frame rates and therefore a more consistant average. Even though the GX2 was faster in some cases the GTX280 still felt smoother. My point is that 2 9800GX2s in qaud SLI is still a formidible amount of power, to clearly thrash it you need 2GTX295s or 3GTX285s in SLI. Given the cost of those choices, and how close DX11 cards are (7 weeks BTW), I think the OP should wait.

We'll thing is i was going to sell my old cards with my old pc parts, so wanted somthing that didnt cost the earth, but didnt run slower than the 9800's

I just noticed that the ati 4890's if i get 2 of them in crossfire, they come to roughly the same price as a single 4870x2 and looking at a couple of benchmarks perform faster as well and in some cases faster than the gtx295

orr am i still barking up the wrong GFX Card?
