Hello,

I wondering if it's time to upgrade.

Currently running:

  • i5-4670K
  • 8GB DDR3
  • AMD Radeon 7900
  • Corsair 650W PSU
  • 256GB SSD (plus a 1TB HDD for storage)
  • 24" Dell monitor running at 1920 x 1080

Games I'm looking to play are Wow (not highly demanding I know), Crowfall and Camelot Unchained. The latter two are still in Beta but feature some large scale battles which I think might overwork the above rig.

I'm looking to spend maybe £900 to upgrade my kit.

Or do folks think it might be worth sticking it out for a while (particularly given GPU and RAM prices!)?

Thank you.

Z

new wow expansion recommends i7 4770.

tbh, your current config isn't that bad.

for a cheap-ish upgrade:
(1) new graphics card
(2) overclock the 4670k
(2b) if still underwhelming performance - swap for a 4790k and overclock that
(3) add another 8gb ram to make 16gb

#sorted (on the cheap)

Also depends how you play those games, massive raids puts heavy path way loads on the CPU, looks like raids wills be even larger in new expansion , hence the bump up to i7 8 threads

Have you overclocked the CPU ?

At the moment I've left my board to automatically overclock itself which is probably far from perfect.

If I was going to put a cap of £300-£350 on a new GPU, what would folks recommend?

Thank you for the replies.

this budget is a bit of an odd ball tbh.
for £260, could get a 1060 6gb (say this performance is 100%, and price is 100%)
£380 buys you a 1070 (performance 135%, price 145%)
£410 gets a 1070ti (performance 160%, price 157%)

so best price/performance ratio is in favour of a 1060 6gb or a 1070ti.
depends what you want to spend, really.
but i wouldn't get at 1070 unless you're buying to a budget - reasons as above

A penny saved is a penny earned!

Taking on the collective advice I will start by just replacing my GPU.

Given that I am not in desperate need and there are rumours of a price drop this month, I will hold off for a few weeks.

Thank you for the replies.
