Upgrade from 3870 Xfire?

Double ? Don't think so. And it's probably only in crysis, link to the review anyways I'd like to see that.

I'd be suprised if the overall difference was anything above 20% at most and most of the time more than 5-10%.

Now you could say, YEH BUT 20% IS a lot, no it isn't, game at 60fps isnt any smoother than game at 50fps.

I wouldn't be upgrading anywhere less than 40-50% increase. Not at this price. Sure 5770 is an excellent card, but tbh it's nowhere worth it's price, it's hardly a slightly improved 4850 DX11 revamp.

You can get 4870 with same performance for less than half the price.

But then at the end of the day, it's your choice and you'll do whatever you want regardless of what others say.

I will personally wait for the 6xxx cards before buying anything slower than a 5830.
The 5770 was a good value for money when it came out, it's not anymore, unless you can spot 2nd hand one for around 80quid.

Phonenix has a point.

Just my 2 cents, from wht Iv read a 4870 is around equal performance wise to the 5770.

Ofcourse phonex's point is thats its cheaper than the 5770.

Really to make your upgrade worth it, you need to make a big enough jump.

If you dont have the cash now, then save and make the jump to the 460 or a 5850. You wont regret it.

I guess the point is this. Although the 5770 has the dx 11 support the 4870 doesnt, whats the point in having dx11 if it cant deleiver the fps?

But you only need a gaming rig for rts games, so an 5770 may do fine. Cheaper option is a 4870. But both are side grades more than upgrades, tbh.

get the 5770 and add a second at a later date ?

That was a valid point few months ago, I don't think it's worth it anymore as the prices of 5770 havn't dropped a single bit yet since release and the new GPUs are on the horizon already.

I'd say it's rather buy a cheap second 4850/4870 to tide you over till new stuff comes out, wait, or buy 5830/50/70/ 460/470 now.

Got myself a 5770, couldn't afford the extra for a 1gb 460 and looking at the benchmarks there's not as much of a performance gap at my res due to the 5770 having more memory. Just ran a Crysis benchmark to give a comparison to the old cards and I'm impressed. Stock 5770 vs overclocked 3870's in Xfire -

And it's a lot quieter to boot :)

Looks more to me like there was only 1 3870 running or it didn't scale at all.

Either way if you're happy with your purchase then it's all that counts, enjoy your new toy it's a very good card after all even tho a bit overpriced : ).
