Upgrade from 4850 - 5770 worthwhile?

Agree with the majority of this, but I still think a 5850 would be borderline for some dx11 titles, especially with all the eye candy turned on.

As for the 5770 well that's pretty much a waste of time for dx11 unless you're still running 1280x1024.

From the benchmarks I've seen a 5870 would be the minimum requirement for me, to get reasonably good framerates at my res of 1920x1200.

I've just gone from 4850 512mb to 5770 1gb.
It actually provided a very big boost in the only game I was really playing lots : STALKER Call of Pripyat.
Whether because the DX11 mode is better optimised, because I was right on the borderline & a little extra performance helped a lot, because it needed more video RAM, or because 5770 shows more gain in minuimum framerates compared to 4 series, I don't know.
Also worth considering is very lower power consumption & native HDMI.
Anyway, I found it to be a much better upgrade than I expected but milage will vary.

i would not bother unless you really want DX11 personally i'd save up and get a 5850 and OC it but thats just me.. im waiting for a 5890 myself.

5770 crossfire has better max and min FPS than a single 5850 does for around the same cost, especially in DX11 mode as all HD 5000 series have the same amount of tesselator performance.

Also, 5770s, are much much faster than 4870s when overclocked, they are more comparible to 4890s just with such a tiny and unnoticable difference. Comparison benchies between the 5770 and 4870 were mostly done before the 10.3 drivers were released, which significantly boosted the performance of the 5770.

I myself 'Upgraded' from 4870 xfire to 5770 xfire, and I cannot say anything bad about having done so either:

4870 crossfire - P16021 (15269 graphics score)

5770 crossfire - P22352 (21337 graphics score)

My results speak for themselves, also people who state that going from HD 4800s to 5770s isnt any good havnt actually tried both setups themselves. If you ask anyone that has done the upgrade from HD 4800s to 5770s, they will tell you it is worth it (except I wouldnt bother changing from 4890s, but both 4850s and 4870s can be replaced by the 5770, and you will see better performance with the latest featutres).
