Considering upgrading from my 560to 2GB. I'm hoping to be able to push up the AA on things like Train Simulator as well as being able to run Skyrim at better fps with mods, I get as low as 30fps in an lot of outdoor areas.

Spec
i5 2500k
8GB
120Hz BenQ monitor.

Not sure on budget but was looking at 680s. Noticed the superclocked version of one of the cards was exactly the same price as the normal one.. Why? Worth getting superclocked version?

Thanks

Do you play in 3D? Reason for asking is that AMD offer better value for money at the moment but your monitor only supports 3D with nVidia cards.

670s are only 5% slower than 680s and are cheaper so this probably a better option for you. The EVGA FTW version is a good one. :)

Don't use 3d but like the option. Haven't had Ati/AMD since early 2000s! Hmm. Will look into the 670, is it really that much more value?

For some reason im slightly scared of jumping to AMD after Nvidia for about 5 cards.

Switched from an overclocked 7870 to a 680 and the difference was extremely noticeable. Only you can answer whether it's worth it though, peoples value of money and how they experience settings in games varies.

An overclocked 7870 is a fair bit better than a 560ti. You will definitely notice an improvement. You'll be able to max pretty much any game with 4xAA whilst still achieving higher frames that your 560ti could at lower settings.

A lot. The 680 is nVidia's top single GPU from this generation whereas the 560Ti is the mid range part from the last generation. I'd expect gains well in excess of 50% to be honest but check some benches from release day to get an idea.

IMO the 680 being only 5% quicker isn't really worth the extra cash unless you're set on having the best.

For AMD the 7950 offers the same or slightly higher performance than a 670 for less money. Having swapped between the brands continuously throughout the years there's nothing to fear - it's just different.

Cheers guys. I guess the 670 windforce is my best bet out of the 670s?

Out of the 670's available here on overclockers the ASUS is probably the best, followed by the windforce. Those are the only 2 I'd buy out of the choices available on here as I don't like EVGA's coolers.

The newest review someone left on the windforce 670 is this:

I upgraded to this card from the AuSUS GTX 560 Direct Cu II. This card is way faster than the 560. But the biggest thing I have noticed is that the Windforce cooler is much quieter than the solution on my 560 and also it is also only dual height rather than triple height.

So that answers your question :)

Gigabyte are also an excellent choice because of their customer service and fast rma turn around. I've yet to read of anyone that has had a good experience with Asus in that regard, which is a real shame since Asus make some of the best gear going.

My old 560 ti sli setup would match a gtx 680 in pretty much all areas, but where they failed was at the minimum FPS, think this was due to the low 1gb of vram among other things.

As many have already said either a 7950 or a GTX 670 and personally id go with the 7950 because its cheaper and it just works while giving you similar performance(had a multitude of issues with my previous NVidia setup, but everybody experience is different).

I concur with some of the other posters here and I would be looking at either of these. Both use a full 680 PCB (more phase capacitors and better cooling).

YOUR BASKET
1 x Gigabyte GeForce GTX 670 Windforce 3X 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £319.99
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 670 FTW 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £299.99
Total : £631.38 (includes shipping : £9.50).

I own 680's and after seeing how close the 670 is to to them, it is a wise choice However if you are determined to own the top Nvidia card, then this is a fantastic price:

YOUR BASKET
1 x EVGA GeForce GTX 680 Superclocked 2048MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card £369.95
Total : £380.75 (includes shipping : £9.00).

EVGA have fantastic CS and have active reps on these forums who help if you need it. Gigabyte have UK RMA should you need that and both have a very quick turn around should you run into issues and need to return the card.

That makes it much clearer, thanks! Suppose I need to decide between the 670 or 680. Just about money I guess. Will a 680 last longer with regards to new games and performance or will it always be close to the 670?

I do want to get a goodun while I can afford it. Will look at my funds later...

They all relatively quiet?

+1

EPIC card. Quite and cool. Uses the 680 PCB and, and overclocks like a beast. Easy to o/c to speeds over stock 680s.

They are all decent in terms of quiet and when a 670 is struggling to maintain fps in the future, so will a 680. Because of how close the 670 is to a 680, the wiser* person will buy a 670. If you wanted to upgrade to SLI when the single card is struggling in the future, it would work out cheaper getting another 670.

* I am not wise.

5% sounds like it's faster but say your struggling in a new game 2 years down the line and only getting 30fps on the 670, the 680 would only be getting 31/32fps, that's not exactly going to help much. Even right now on a game where a 670 would get say 80fps, the 680 would only be getting 84fps.

Percentages your brain works out automatically seem to get skipped for GPU's, it's easy to just see "% faster" and forget it can mean 2fps faster lol.

lol... an Overclocked 7870 is a fair bit better than a GTX 580. often even when not overclocked.

I agree with the consensus, a GTX 670 is better value than a GTX 680.
