is it worth it or am i good still? i mainly game at 4k but i do audio recordings using software like sony sound forge and I would like to get into streaming. not srue if 4 cores would cut it anymore though as i am upgrading to a 3080 from a 1080ti. is it worth waiting for a new platform, or go with something that is currently avalible on market and if so what would be best option? Not sure as iv been out of touch with cpus for a while now.

Likely still good at 4K, bound to still be some bottlenecking of 3080 though, thats the rub. I retired my 6700K for that reason.
what kind of bottleneck can i expect, i mean im going to be at 4k. and going to get massive performance compeared to my 1080ti still

That looks positive until you factor in a more recent game like CP2077 (which they didn't). @morta 's 7700k would sit below the 3300x on that chart and maybe even at 1600x level. Granted, this is an RTX 3090 not 3080 benchmark but EVEN at 4K there is bottlenecking by older/weaker cpu's. I reckon the same would be true of FS2020 as well which hogs cpu power and needs more than 4 cores to pair well with a 3080.

I agree those 2 games will definitely need more than 4 cores , as the op wants to get into streaming it makes sense to upgrade.

so i wont get better performance then i currently get with cyberpunk 2077? the game runs at 1080p ultra with dips below 60. and same can be said at 4k if i enable the amd thing..its only when i disable that **** i get sluggish fps..but thats to do with my gpu not my cpu..surly

If you upgrade your Cpu you should see an improvement and getting a better hpu wil see further increase.

was just talking to someone about this on discord

the i7-7700k sells for around £200 on ebay not checked how much the motherboards sell for

If you haven't seen any issues so far, maybe hold out for AM5 or Alder Lake. But you will be bottlenecked with a 30' or 6000 series GPU.
yea a bottleneck, but not somethign im going to see performance wise. I'm not going to get worse performance then i am currently getting. il get better performance right? just not as good if i was to upgrade the cpu aswell.

I pair an i7-7700k @ 5.1GHz with an RTX3080 and run at 1440p with a 144Hz monitor.

For most games, I don't notice a bottleneck, even though it is probably there. SotTR with Ultra/RTX runs well 70-100, RDR2 is 100+, etc. Watch Dogs Legion is the only thing I own that has been a bit of a problem, but that engine wants more threads I think. I have a ton of games still in my back catalogue to play that I know I'll have a great experience playing.

I don't have CP2077 or AC:V to try, as I am waiting for a "Definitive" or "GoTY" edition for those so I can grab all the content at once. I think by the time those come out Alder Lake / AM5 will be here and I'll probably be looking to upgrade to one of those.

People talking about AM5 like the 5000 series didn't just release lol. You will 100% notice the upgrade from that 7700k.

There isn't some golden rule that makes it mandatory to upgrade every component to hit the best possible balance of hardware each time you upgrade though. It is more sensible to only upgrade when your current hardware isn't giving you results you are happy with, and then to pick the weakest point, upgrade that, and re-evaluate once that part is in your system.

Yep agreed, I only recently replaced my i5 7600k. Hoping to get some good life out of my new CPU
