Upgrade from a 1070...

Hundreds of millions of people are buying graphics cards so Nvidia are just responding buy maximising profit as much as possible. They're a business after all. I think it's the consumer that needs a kick in the butt for creating such a huge monopoly that no other competitor can possibly complete in.

Monopolies are created by buying from the same company for years and years. This is guarenteed to drive prices up. The consumer then moans that the inevitable happened.

I'm not saying nVidia is responsible, by "kick in the butt" I meant a serious response from AMD that would shake things up and force them to change their strategy. Of course the consumers are responsible for voting with their wallets, that's why I'm still thinking whether I should go for it.

I've been getting the impression that AMD are quite happy to let nvidia hoover up the very top end of the market. They haven't really had anything comparable to the 1080ti/2080ti and haven't looked like aiming at that market either. The market there is poor in terms of sales with low single digit market share. And I don't see any sign of that changing either.

Yes, either that or they're cooking up something special but I doubt it. It makes sense to focus on midrange as it generates a lot more revenue than enthusiast cards. Which sucks for us, unfortunately, as Nvidia is basically offering people a 1080Ti again with features it's too weak to fully utilise and with quite a price tag.
I won't be too surprised if the 3070 won't turn out to be that much faster than current cards.

Even the 2070S is IMO a bit too expensive, it's not that I can't afford it or a 2080S or whatever. It's just that I'm hesitant knowing that I shouldn't buy it:p I should've gotten a 1080Ti and I'd still be golden now since it's now been an entire generation and a refresh and those cards aren't really much faster.

You do realise that Nvidia spend 3x the R&D budget of AMD? It's impossible to compete at the top end without a HUGE budget.

Or do you think AMD can't be bothered to compete at the top end?

£400 absolute maximum. Not a penny more, What do you suggest?

Here all stock, so you get an idea. I'm coming from a GTX 1060, so it was worth it in my case.

Also have a 5700 paired with a R7 2700. All stock, i don't see a difference between these two systems. Play same games, same settings and rez. Love my 5700 more. Twice as fast as my GTX 1060 while consuming similar power.

i caved in and bought a Palit 2070 SUPER Jetstream after months of waiting and saying no, I won't buy until 3000 is here.

I'm on 1440 and at a time like this where I have loads of spare time I could do with playing games properly, I don't want to avoid playing RDR2 for example because I can't run it at settings it should be played at to appreciate the game
