Upgrade from a 1070...

From the few ive seen for sale it seems to range from 150 to 175 depending on make. I think ill jump at the Palit 2070S, i can always move it on when the 3*** series drop :)

I think I'll be doing the same, either the 2070S or 2080S if I find a good deal. Then either sell it and get a 3000 series card depending on how much faster they are or get a gsync compatible monitor.

Also thinking abut the Palit, preferably the Jetstream as the GameRock logo is horrendous:p

Cheers buddy mine is a Zotac Amp so im not sure where that fairs due to its make.

Are both of you not tempted by the cheaper 5700XT, as it pretty much has the same performance as the 2070S?

Personally for me ive always enjoyed Nvidia cards, not a fanboi but always had zero problems with them. To be fair if you want to save a few pennies then the Powercolor Red Devil looks like a stonking card for the money. I was sorely tempted by it before i made the green decision :)

For me it's just that I prefer NVidia drivers and their cards are usually more efficient.

I still think AMD makes great cards with a properly good price/perf ratio, I wish they crushed NVidia and forced them to tone down their ridiculous pricing policy.

Yeah deffo the Jetstream, the coolers on those are some of the best ive ever seen, that Gamerock can die in a fire, it looks like it comes free with Guitar Hero!! :D

Yeah, exactly my thoughts:D I don't know what they were thinking, has to be one of the most tacky logos I've seen in a while:p

I've just had a look here and they are going to be even cheaper with the cashback deals coming up with Asus.

Not laughing at all mate, we're all enthusiasts and thats what matters :) I would say still get the 5700x BUT make sure you have a decent PSU to power it, i think the recommended minimum is a 600w gold. The Cpu will probably be a bit of a bottleneck but you should still see a nice speed boost until you upgrade the rest of the system.

Thats not a bad idea tbf. I could offload my 1070 for £150 so it'd only cost me another £150 for a good upgrade.

Regarding the PSU Ive got a EVGA 600w Bronze atm so hopefully, that'll be enough or it's even more outlay for me lol

Get a card and see what happens, you may be lucky and it all runs smoothly but any instability and id be looking at the PSU. Make sure your motherboard has the latest bios as well.

OK cool thanks. My motherboard was given to me by some kind gent on another forum a couple of years ago when I was after a board with a Z68, Z75 or Z77 chipset to overclock my processor. When I installed it I got the latest drivers and they were from 2013 lol so that may be an issue.

Just go to your mobo website and see what the latest bios is and install it. With any luck it will be enough to boot a new gfx card but dont be surprised if it falls over. Sadly it may be a case of upgrade all the system if possible.

I've looked and they are the same ones...... 2013 lol

That just shows how old this board is haha. I haven't got anything to lose trying really, it just means ill have to get everything sooner than I planned if it doesn't work.

No experience of Gigabyte sadly, i had an Asus once and its cooler was supposed to be the second coming of christ....it was awful, along with the ridiculous premium price ive vowed to never touch Asus again.

I had an Asus 970 back in the days and it was significantly worse than advertised in terms of temps and noise. The best card I've had is my current one, the MSI 1070 Gaming X. The cooler is nuts, fans not spinning in idle at all and inaudible under load with temps below 70.

I reckon the the new MSI cards are great as well but there's a bit of a premium on them, and RTX offerings are already pretty poor value, especially the 2080S. NVidia needs a serious kick in the butt.

I've heard the Gigabytes are pretty good coolers and I have good deals on both the 2070S and 2080S but from what a gather they might be audible under load.

NVidia needs a serious kick in the butt.

Hundreds of millions of people are buying graphics cards so Nvidia are just responding buy maximising profit as much as possible. They're a business after all. I think it's the consumer that needs a kick in the butt for creating such a huge monopoly that no other competitor can possibly complete in.

Monopolies are created by buying from the same company for years and years. This is guarenteed to drive prices up. The consumer then moans that the inevitable happened.
