Upgrade from a 8700K to a 8086K, worth it?

Hello all.

Just a quick question.. Currently I've got a 8700K overclocked to 5200MHz on all cores. Is it worth replacing it with a 8086K?

According to the specs both CPU's are identical apart from the boost speed.

Cheers.

I think it would be pointless and being a 6 core CPU, I would rather aim for an 8-12 core CPU once it's time to upgrade again.

I'm not fussed with high core count CPUs, a 6 core is more than enough for gaming. I think my CPU is good till the 9th gen comes out. I always upgrade to the next gen when it comes out. My next upgrade will be an Nvidia Turing card when they come out which will replace my 1080Ti

TBH I think my 8700K is a monster of a CPU, best ive had.

The 8700K is a beast for gaming so you definitely choose the right CPU :)
I'm still on the old 3570K @4.5 but this thing still runs games surprisingly well, so I will be looking at the next gen for upgrades.

Don't you find it bottlenecking in BF 1 and many other AAA games?

The 8086k is an 8700k with a new label slapped on it. I doubt you’d get an 8086k that’d be as fast as what you already have!!

I’m not even sure it’s worth jumping from my 4770K let alone an 8700K!

I don't have BF1 but I thought when games like AC Origins came out I would be in trouble, but it runs basically smooth.
I guess playing in 1440p/Gsync on a GTX 1070 is what's helping the old 3570k CPU last a bit longer.

Yeah I think I'd feel it less myself if I had Freesync running, shame nVidia don't support it really.

I would think you would be quite likely to get an 8086k that is worse than your 8700k. 5.2 is about as good as possible from an 8700k for normal use.

8086k is just a cherry binned 8700

No, because 5GHz is only guaranteed on a single core (300MHz above an 8700K). The general all-core stock turbo boost is the same as the 8700K. There is a possibility that it may overclock slightly better than the average 8700K, but it's not guaranteed and would still require a delid to get the most out of it because the same terrible TIM(thermal interface material) is used which means the chip runs hot.
