Upgrade from a 980 ?

Until Vega releases there are no AMD upgrades. Nvidia have 3 cards available today, The 1070, 1080 & the Pascal Titan X. If you are considering second hand a 980ti is also an option but I'd go for a 10 series personally, It's possible a 1080ti will release around when Vega does which should be in the first half of 2017.

Depends, the rx480 is quicker if you use dx12. The older nvidia cards are pretty awful at it.

Yeah I would suggest waiting to upgrade. It is what I am doing. Although I may even sell my 2 x 980's to put towards the next GPU as will be going single card in future.

It makes no sense to upgrade at this time when other cards are only a few months away. If it was 9 months it may be different but 2 months isn't long.

Ah, someone speaks common sense at last. I cannot believe that some people on these forums are going out and buying 1080s right now and are not willing to wait a few months to see what happens with either the Vega line up or the release of the 1080Ti.

Surely with a few new card releases they may even benefit from saving a few sheckles or even if they dont...they havent really lost out on anything. What they gain is the knowledge that they didnt waste their money by being too haste.

;)

980 with your Swift is not too bad at all really. Depends on the game of course but on BF1 for me i have to go down to medium to get >60fps.

But i would certainly look at a 1070 or a 1080 IF you needed a card NOW.
IMO going from 980 to 980ti doesnt make sense, just get a 1070 for the most up to date platform per say.

980ti is getting a little old now so I wouldn't recommend it unless you got second hand cheaply after selling your old one. Something better will come up soon I'm sure. In the meantime a regular 980 is still doing a good job.

I was in the same conundrum as you foster grant and was going to wait for the Ti. However I have this feeling that it might be priced stupidly, so I cashed in the 980 while they still had reasonable resale value and got a 1080
