Upgrade from E6300, which CPU?

I think upgrading the CPU before the GPU would be a big mistake, depending on the resolution you game at.

If you game at 1024x768 then by all means go with the CPU, but any higher and you will be many times better off with a new GPU.

In my opinion, people spend far too much on the CPU on far too little on the GPU if their rigs are for gaming.

Ok, thanks. I have seen a new q6600 for £160, seems expensive though and would it need to be clocked hard?

not worth it, for that price i would do a search on google and you might find a better chip for that price, i heard that you can get some extreme chips for that price on the market, quad process also...do some research and you might find that i am right...

I would only suggest moving to i5 or i7 if you are looking to change your motherboard, cpu and memory unless you have a system that support ddr3 already

I will have a look around for a Q9450 or Q9550, though having a quick google brings nothing up.

Will look to replace the GPU also, will a ATI 5770 be OK for BF2 BC? If not what else for around £150?

Depends on if you are gaming in dx10 or dx11 mode. For dx11 mode (which the frame rate will take a dive comparing to dx10), you might possibly need to have AA at no higher than x2, and effects quality down to medium if gaming at 1920x1080.

I'm in the same boat as this guy really, I've the DS4 tho (965P-DS4) with an 6300 Running 3.2GHZ with an 8800GT.
is it worth upgrading the graphics card rather than processor for 1920*1080 gaming?

I was in the same boat as you, had a E6300, upgraded my 8800gtx to a 5850 and found in bfbc2 it likes a quad (and probably the majority of new games to be released), although it ran fairly smooth I dropped in a second hand Q6600 and it runs a hell of a lot smoother.

Early days for ocing it yet, but got it at 3ghz atm stable

Hope this helps.
