Evening. So its time I upgraded my GTX 670. I have been looking at the R9 380 as its in my price range (£160ish) I would be going for the 4gb model. I wont be gaming, above 1080p for the forseable future. Does anyone have any thoughts on this card or can you recommend something better for around the same price. I dont mind if its Nvidia or AMD. Thanks

With that budget you're really right in the 'notspot' where there are much better cards for another £100 or so. Is your budget £160+the £70 or so you'll get for your 670 on the MM or is that fixed regardless? If you can stretch to around £250 then it's easily a 970.

If you really can't stretch that far then I'd say a 960. Or check the MM.

GTX 780 for sale here for £150 and they're still fantastic cards at 1080p.

My budget isnt very flexible :-(

Is that 780 a 3gb card. I really wanted 4gb but at 1080p I suppose its not really that big of a deal?

So are the Nvidia cards recommended over the AMD at this price point?

Nope, and I do not know how you got that idea.

AMD all way to and until high end (where you can decide between 980Ti/FuryX) has no competitor at price/performance ratio .

For new R9 380 4Gb start at £169
For used R9 290X/390X any none reference ones will be far better value for money at that price or less. (someone bought 290X at MM for £70).
There is no competitor there. While AMD keeps supporting old cards, and the drivers have matured to the point that a 290X now is faster than the 780Ti.....

Blanket comments like this are just so wrong, with the way that certain games perform better on the different architectures, you cannot just say that one side it categorically better than the other. It also depends on what the criteria is for the individual asking the question, it may be what is the best card with no external power (750ti), or what will give the best Freesync performance( obviously an AMD card).

I have decided to buy new so I have decided its between two cards

GTX 960 or the R9 380 both 4bb models

Any thoughts? I also look the look of the 380 Nano
