Upgrade from HD6950?

40% overclock on a 6970? wow, is that on the stock cooler?

It has to be water at the very least. I just managed 1Ghz (benching only) on my 6950 flashed to 6970 but the fan had to be at 100% due to the raise in voltage for stability.

Yeah, i had a 6950, good card, but a Ghz on it pushed even the best air coolers.

ignore that epic fail of a fup up on my part

950 on the core and 1400 on the ram  voltage is running 1250mv

Yeah, suicide runs only :D.

I had my 4890 at 1ghz back in the day

That would have been toasty. Save some money on gas in the cold winter months with that in your rig :D. Nice clock.

I was hoping 8pack had a rival with another sub zero clocker when I seen 1250Mhz :D. I ran 900-950/1450 I think (game dependant) but could manage them with slightly lower voltages on the stock cooler also. I just wanted one to flash and make into a 6970. It was pretty much BIOS flash, "oooh look at the new shaders count", simple overclock and then game time.

Woah this topic has a lot of posts.

I'd go for the GTX 670, as it is one of the top Geforce cards, comparable to the GTX 680. The 7950 is a cheaper option, but is slower, however it has a vast OC'ing headroom.

In a similar boat.

Got an upgrade itch...bought my PSU with xfire in mind but now it comes to it, dunno if I cba.

Got my reference 6970 at max stable OC of 1040 on the core and 1420 mem so it can handle anythign I throw at it at 1080p. With stock core at 880 on reference cooler I think I got a good chip at the time.

However, I have a 120Hz monitor and I do like having my FPS over 120 and I was going to go for a 670 EVGA FTW but still not clicked buy yet.

honestly id wait for a year. new consoles wont be out til this time next year and there isnt going to be anything else to test your cards you have now

new consoles new engines to push cards ;)

In the same boat mate. I have the upgrade itch and fancy something new, even though my 6950/70 is handling everything fine. I then come to my senses and say, wait a bit longer until i need to upgrade.
