hey guys i was wondering if any one could check over my basket and give any reccomendations,

Kingston Fury Black 8GB (2x4GB) DDR4 PC4-21300C15 2666MHz Dual Channel Kit - Black (HX426C15FBK2/8)= £35.99

Intel Core i5-6600K 3.9GHz (Skylake) Socket LGA1151 Processor - Retail= £199.99

Gigabyte GA-Z170-HD3P Intel Z170 (Socket 1151) DDR4 ATX Motherboard= £97.99

Fractal Design Define R4 Midi Tower Case - Black Window= £79.99

Seagate 1TB 7200RPM SATA 6Gb/s 64MB Cache HDD - OEM (ST1000DM003)= £36.95

Samsung SH-224FB/BEBE 24x DVD±RW SATA ReWriter (Black) - OEM M disc compatible= £12.95

Total: £476.46

i will be needing a cpu cooler as well but i don't see any listed as socket 1151.

upgrading from a phenom II 955 with 8 gig ddr 3 and a radeon 270x.

ill be keeping the existing harddrives and my new ssd and also the gpu and my psu for the time being, psu is a corsair 850 watt and pretty new as my old one went pop last year.

thanks for any help guys :)

Im pretty sure the 1151 uses the same cooler mount as the 1150.

you'll notice a fair performance increase over the old 955

only thing I would be tempted to do would be up the ram to 16gb and get a matching kit. that way your future proofed ram wise

kool thanks for the input guys, i assume the bios will not need updated for the 6600k?

yeh the ram is a temp solution just to get the rig up and running when i need more ill just buy a matched pair that is a faster speed plus always good to have spare ram kicking about :)

hows this cooler perform? https://www.overclockers.co.uk/raijintek-themis-evo-professional-cpu-cooler-hs-007-rt.html and would it fit the case? i won't be overclocking for at least a year or 2 if at all but i like the option available, even though my phenom II is still at stock speed lol :)

so all in should be a solid build? my current mainboard is 7 year old in august lol

sorry for all the drunk smileys im drunk and excited at the thought of a new comp :)

yay all built and up and running i had a little more in my budget so i changed the main board to one of these https://www.overclockers.co.uk/giga...cket-1151-ddr4-atx-motherboard-mb-537-gi.html

im amazed how quiet that case is, i literally cannot hear it even when playing the witcher 3 which has seen a nice performance boost, i guess my card might of been bottleknecked a wee bit plus memory at twice the speed and stronger cpu will have helped a lot :)

oh i discovered a nasty surprise inside my old case, dried in cat spray with some sticky bits, one of them must have done it through the side vent which i had a fan on and within the last 2 weeks as it was not there when i put in a ssd 2 weeks ago.....

i found spray on the circuit board for my gpu, the side of the psu and a lot on a now corroding heat sink, im guessing some on the main board too.

was thinking of selling the old parts but not now, nearly 7 year old with added cat spray...... lol

no cats in this room when im sleeping any more, the furry *****s lol

dads got a similar comp to my old one downstairs so i guess my old parts will be spares for that oh well.

edit: went for this cooler and it is working well with some artic 5 https://www.overclockers.co.uk/raijintek-themis-evo-professional-cpu-cooler-hs-007-rt.html noticed it has a brushless motor in the fan as well :D idle temps about 15-18 c in my warm room :)

MASSIVE EDIT : i got HARIBO TANGFASTICS :D was 545 quid all in now i need to migrate my steam games of the 2 500 gig drives to the new 1 terabyte one then remove them and add a 2 terabyte one then i can remove the hdd cage and buy a awesome gpu and my monitor is playing up so a new one is needed as well yay ocuk is gonna get more monies as long as they keep the haribo coming :)

nice move on the board. Ive been looking at 1151 boards and that is one of the ones I like.
how do you find the 6600k?
Ive got the upgrade bug sitting on my shoulder annoying me..

I upgraded at the end of September last year to the 4690k as my 8350 had died on me. I saw an improvement in performance and my games were smoother

after that I upgraded to the gtx970 from the 7950 and again it made a nice difference in my games.

Im trying to behave until later in the year to see what comes out before I go spending any money.

hehe yeh the upgrade bug gets us all :p

finding the cpu pretty awesome compared to my old one, just tried battlefield 4 which was not running too well last time i tried it and it is much better now :)

no idea how it compares to your cpu though.

I dont think ther performance increase would be worth going to the 6600k from the 4690k that's the only thing that holds me back.

Ive hovered over the button to buy the 4790k a few times but refrained my self.

Im trying to hold off to see what comes out this year then decide what I want to do.

either way I have a temptation to go to an i7 next time.

yeh if i were you id wait for the even newer and then even newer stuff and grab an i7, but i was on a phenom II for nearly 7 years lol :)

still running sweet although that padded i/0 shield made me apply a fair bit of pressure on the back of the mother board sockets and do not get me started on the intel sockets, the stupid lever needs massive force lol

all steam games installed are on my 1 tb drive and should get a 2 tb one tomorrow, then i can remove the 2 500 gig old ones and the drive bay then get a awesome big gpu :D

might at some point grab an i7 and will increase mem speed with a new kit when 8 gig won't cut it any more oh and the sound chip on this board is awesome while before i was considering a dedicated sound card ;)

not a single crash on dark souls 3 for 70 hours playtime and running all smooth on my tv at high settings, nearly bought that on my ps4 because of all the problems on the steam forums, glad i went pc for that one lol

I must admit Im really impressed with the Gtx970's performance with games but im running at 1080p but it plays anything I throw at it. I know some folk dish it but its an affordable card without going bonkers.
Its a massive improvement over my old 7950

hopefully the new gen cards will be a big improvement as I would really grudge the money on a 980ti as an upgrade unless I was to get one 2nd hand at a silly low price.

Wait for zen.
Im hoping zen will live up to the hype.
I upgraded to the 4690k just shy of a year ago from the FX8350 and noticed a nice increase of performance.

If Zen lives up to to all the hype that has been surrounding it lately then it may be worth going for but once its out and there is actual benchmarks not just hearsay and leaked specs then we can all see if its worth going for.

I would consider it if it makes sense but if I can get better performance from an Intel CPU at around the same budget then that's what ill do.

I have no loyalty to either and im not a fanboy ill go with what is best for me.

Im also in no hurry to drop cash on a complete new build my 4690k and Gtx970 still holds its own and works fine for me.
if I was to do anything the now it would be an i7 to pop into my board.

Lol you don't need to upgrade your 4690k!! get an i7 4790k Even if zen is amazing, pointless as it wont have better ipc then haswell, very unlikely to notice any difference in games, Most likely it'll be worse

yea as I say im in no hurry to start dropping cash on a complete new build. I reckon I will go for the i7 4790k this year at some point.
I should be able to get a wee bit of the cash back that I drop on the 4790k off my 4690k it was bought new from OC and is a retail so has warranty.
