Then the above spec is either cheaper as you dont need the RAM, or spend the £30 towards upgrading the CPU further.

I would avoid the piledriver CPU's and go straight for an I3 being £23 cheaper while on sale, also leaves you with option to upgrade to an I5 when funds allow at a later date.

What stulid suggested would be best.

Yup, the upgrade path with the 1155's is just too good to give up IMO.

It was just a thought :) There is always the FX-8 or potential future AMD chips on the AM3+ socket as well though.

Though I do agree that the 1155 upgrade route is superior, and the Intel boards offer more advanced features.
Haswell will be 1155 will it not?

Always open for some debate :) helps OP leave with confidence with what hes buying , plus always good to hear oher suggestions :)

i believe haswell will be a new socket? so haswell wont be upgrade path i dont think. but an I5 defiantly would be ^^

Do the i3's whip q6600 in terms of performance ?

i have same mobo and cpu as the op, ecept i have a 8800gtx 768mb instead of his 6950

Beat? Yes, accross the board.

Whip? For some uses, not for others.

Destroy? No.

Especially since the Q6600 is overclockable, whereas the i3 wont be. Personally I would not upgrade unless I was getting a 3570K on Z77.

i3 3220 vs stock Q6600

He says that he already has 8GB of DDR3 in one of the earlier posts I believe. So that makes it a little less pricey. Otherwise that is what most people would recommend yes :) Personally I would choose a different board (purely for aesthetic reasons) though that board does have good reviews and high praise for the price.
