Currently running a Samsung 840 on a X99S Gaming 7 motherboard, and don't want to get left behind as I've had it a while now. Is there anything worth an upgrade to what I currently have that's worth while, or stick with it for now?

I suppose you could upgrade to the Samsung SM951 M2 drive

Personally I wouldn't see it as a big enough upgrade though

Not worth it unless you need more space. I've got the following drives and cannot tell them apart (they all feel very fast) unless I run a benchmark.

  • 120GB 840 Evo
  • 250GB 840 Evo
  • 250GB 850 Evo
  • 120GB M500
  • 256GB MX100

I'm not sure where you'd notice the super high speeds of the PCI-E drives. Image editing perhaps?

Absolutely, you're not going to noticed a significant difference even going to a PCI-E based drive unless you have a very specific need for one.

Also NVMe PCI-E drives will be becoming more available (and cheaper) later this year.

An SSD upgrade would be the absolutely last thing I'd do and only if I had money to burn.
