Spec in sig.

Looking to upgrade. Gonna grab 16GB of decent 1600mhz RAM, but also want to upgrade my GPU.

I currently game 1080p / 120hz screen.

I'm wondering if it's worth upgrading my GPU, currently using GTX 670 MSI Power Edition OC (apparently on par with a 680).

I'm happy to drop about 250-300 on a card knowing I will get 100 or so back for my old one.

Am I going to see any real benefit upgrading my GPU or should I wait until next year?

Cheers

+1, get a 2nd one or wait it out til 800 series.

I'm gonna wait personally, nothing I play is really stressing out my 670 too much atm anyway, so no point upgrading.

Wat game is ur card struggling with?

Nothing really, just planning ahead for GTAV mainly.

Truth be told I've just got that "itch" to buy something xD

Been checking it out, I can get a 290x OC edition at about the same price. Would that be better than the 780 I linked?

I prefer Nvidia but if it's a decent boost in performance I don't mind going with the 290x

In a similar position myself. Looking to upgrade in prep for GTA, The Division etc and considering one of the Ultrawide LG Monitors as well. I have £500 but don't want/need to spend that much if I can avoid it. Some of the R290x models look very good VFM compared to the more expensive 780's and in some games even outperform a 780ti.

Alternatively my 670 doesn't really struggle with anything at the moment so I've half a mind to wait it out for 800's but I'm a cynical bugger and can see £500+ for 780ti performance +10-15%.

Ended up grabbing the MSI Radeon R9 290X Gaming 4 GB , after reading plenty of benches it seems better than most 780's and is on par/beats Titan in most things too. Coming just shy of a 780TI which would have been another £150

I just hope AMD's drivers have improved!

Welcome brother. Give me a shout if you need any help. ;)

Hi mate,

Couple quickies to save me scouring google if ya don't mind :D

1) Should I just run beta drivers direct from AMD's site?
2) What's all this about multiple bios's I read somewhere there's a bios switch on the card it's self.
3) Do I need to flash the bios's on the card at all? I don't intend on overclocking it so would the stock bios's suffice?

Cheers in advance

Certainly mate.

1)Use the latest beta from AMD website, currently 14.7. New driver should be due soon (ish) though.
2)The card has two bios. One might have a slightly more aggressive fan profile and or slightly higher clocks than the other. Or they might be identical. Either way you have a spare bios (Bios 2 locked by default) to fall back on if you flash a bad bios to slot 1.
3)I'd just use the stock bios to be honest. However you can try a different one if you wish safe in the knowledge that you have a backup.

I ordered a KFA2 6GB 780. Should be here on Monday. :)

I hope you're planning on adding another 2-3 cards and gaming at a high resolution otherwise 6gb could be a waste. :)

EDIT

Just noticed it's the same price as the 3gb.

Yeah same price and plan on going superwide at some point. Also I couldn't say no at at the same price and if/when I upgrade my board and CPU I will get an SLI capable board. 4k monitors will only get cheaper too. Future planning!

Planning ahead is sort of pointless since faster components will be out by then. And we all get the upgrade itch :D
