Upgrade GPU?

Hi Guys

My brother asked if I could get him a new PC. After looking at his current setup I was wondering if it was worth just upgrading the GPU for now to either a 1060 6GB or a 1070 and then doing the rest in a year or so. His setup is...

Intel Core i5-3450 3.10GHz (Ivybridge) Socket LGA1155 Processor (77W) - Retail - CP-407-IN
MSI HD 6870 OC 1024MB GDDR5 PCI-Express Graphics Card - GX-143-MS
Gigabyte B75M-D3H Intel B75 (Socket 1155) DDR3 Micro ATX Motherboard - MB-397-GI
Corsair XMS3 8GB (2x4GB) DDR3 PC3-12800C9 1600MHz Dual Channel Kit (CMX8GX3M2A1600C9) - MY-290-CS
OcUK Crusade 650W Dual-Rail High Efficiency '80 Plus' Power Supply - CA-043-OK

So it will be for gaming and playing games like... Overwatch, Fortnite, LOL, Shadow of War. All of which run ok on his current setup, just lowering the settings slightly and he said it feels a bit old now.

I would probably plonk in a new GTX1060,and see how it goes. It might be worth at replacing the PSU and plonking in an SSD too,as it will help with load times. The PSU is getting on a bit and it wasn't the best model in the world at the time.

I am running an IB Xeon E3 1230 V2/Core i7 3770 with a GTX1080 at qHD and Overwatch seems OK so far.

Sort of what I was thinking of doing. I think I can get quite a bit more life out of it then can upgrade the CPU/Board/Ram at a later date.

CPU would still hold up for another year or so I would say. Put the best gpu in your brother can afford, and an SSD wouldn’t go a miss either

I know it's OcUK branded but I still wouldn't really trust it with a higher end GPU :p.

Shame it's a B75 board, could've got a cheap 2600K/2700K/3770K, overclock that to over 4GHz and it will still hold well compared to current CPUs.

Yeah I know. It's done well though, £500 build and not changed anything for over 5 years and only just looking at it now. (I think I gave him a spare HDD at the start to save £50)
