Upgrade help for 4k gaming

I am looking to get an upgrade so I can get better performance for 4k gaming.
I currently have a 1080 TI GPU but an old I5 3570 3.6 GHz and 16 GB Ram.
I can get very close or even 60 fps in fairly simple games like life is strange but obviously open world or action orientated games is when my fps suffers. I think I need a better CPU, which means I need a new motherboard and maybe some faster memory. Not sure which to get though.
Anyone got any advice?

Four thread CPU is definitely bottleneck in more demanding games.
You could say that it just doesn't have enough workers for all workloads of the game, when Windows and background junk take theirs.

CPU, motherboard and RAM all need upgrade.
If you want PC to survive next-gen console multiplatter games, 8 core/16 thread Ryzen 3700X would be good.
Consoles will come with lower clocked same architecture CPU:

I agree with above poster. Nice little investment in a 3700x bundle will do you the world of good. You don’t need an expensive 570 board, a B450 with some 3200 MHz RAM will do you fine.

Actually, a 3600 will give you the improvement you’re after.

So definate bottleneck of the 4k then? The Ryzen sounds good. Which motherboard would you suggest? Someone recommended M2 for windows, so M2 support might be ideal.

My basket at Overclockers UK:
Total: £430.47 (includes shipping: £10.50)

CPU - AMD custom Zen 2 chip with 8C/16T on 7nm
GPU - AMD custom Navi chip with ~13TFLOPs (RX Vega 64 level)
RAM: 24GB GDDR6 (20GB @ 880GB/sec) and 4GB for OS
Storage: Ultra-fast SSD (1TB/sec+)

How is the SSD going to work at 1 TB/s and why would a console need 24 GB of GDDR6 ! ! RAM ?

I’d go for the 3600 myself.

I’ve got a 3900x, but after looking at all reviews and benches, I’d say the 3600 is an ideal gaming CPU.

Thanks. That gave me something to think about. What for example would I need to run Assassins Creed Odyssey in 4k at 60 fps? Would that Ryzen do it with my 1080 TI. I know that 4k is demanding, but I find it hard to go back to anything lower, so want a decent performance.

90% of games, you'd need 2080ti for true 4k 60fps high settings. 10% will be most recent AAA like Odyssey which loves cores !

Since you've got 1080ti which is rtx 2080 level , ryzen 3700 or even 3600 and b450 to save cash

I disagree. I was gaming happily at 4k on a Maxwell Titan X a year ago. Hell, I started my 4k gaming on a 780 Ti. As long as you turn the GPU-killers like Hairworks and RTX off, maybe AA too, the OP will be fine.

Apologies, worded it wrong.

Should be, 2080ti true 4k 60hz FPS kin rate rate at High for ANY game including most recent AAA titles. Without having to turn off features etc .

Hopefully see more affordable 4k 120hz screens popping up.

780ti back in the days for games at the time could do 4k, roll on to 2019 and could it run new COD 4k high settings at min 60 FPS ?

I just went for the glory product , some games I upscale my 2080 and can cover 4k but still not a true 4k card imo for recent AAA titles That have been released in its time frame

The thing is, you can cripple any GPU by turning everything on. As I said, Hairworks and RTX are performance killers. This does give the game longevity, of course: you plug in a new GPU and your old game gets a new lease of life. I'm still playing the original Far Cry and Command & Conquer 3 after a decade, and I could run both at 8k if I had an 8k monitor.

Thanks. Ryzen seems like a good shout and I could always get a 2080 in the future if needed. My 32" gsync was £750 when I got it. Not looking at getting another screen for a while. Although think a new PSU might be a good idea and a flashy new full tower case. Any recommendations? How much power would a Ryzen need and for future proofing a 2080? Think I have a 750 w PSU at the moment.

What make/model is the PSU? Likely be fine to keep using it, unless it's really really old or not modular. Then I would get a new'un just for peace of mind and tidy cables.

If you have an i5 3570 you clearly like your stuff to last, you may as well go for the 3700X (otherwise I'd of said 3600) with a 16GB RAM and B450 MAX motherboard. New case is entirely your own preference :p

1080 Ti still a great GPU and is holding out very well, it's equivalent to a 2070 Super atm.
