Upgrade Help On Decisions please?

I agree, if sticking with AMD I would skip BD entirely and go for a 6 or 8 core PD for a definite upgrade. Gaming though I would still recommend going Intel if possible.

so looking at feedback its looking more like the gpu is the better option i could get a slightly cheaper GPU such as the 650 ti instead of the 660 ti and get a better cooler to get more juice out of my cpu atm?

Personally I would say that you should go for the best graphics card you can right now. Maybe consider second-hand if you want to save money.

Is it definitely heat that is holding back your CPU atm?

As FT says. The 650ti is completely woeful.

Get a 660ti (or a 7870 tahiti, bargain cards atm), and save up for a new CPU. I'm running a 7870 tahiti on a "lowly" Phenom X6 at 3.5, and I can max out every game I own at 1920x1200.

yeah to get any more out of it i have to increase the vcore which in turn is providing temperatures too high at max load.

Have you tried simply cleaning the hsf and reseating it with fresh tim? Also, improving your case airflow (or simply leaving the side off) may allow you to get a few extra 100mhz out of it.

If you're just running with the retail cooler on it then I'd definitely spend ~£15 on one of the cheap arctic coolers as it will be a huge increase for not much money. I wouldn't let it take money away from your graphics card upgrade though.

I've got a xigamtek midgard II case with front and back fans and also already got a arctic cooler on it. I've also cleaned it recently applied new thermal paste. Thanks looks like its the GPU then guys!

Ah, I'm surprised that heat is holding you back then. It could be worth getting a better cooler but you'd have to read up on it a lot to ensure it would make much of a difference.

Good luck with the GPU purchase :)

some one suggested the 7870 just looked at some testing results for that and it seems very competitive also saw it with 5 free games for 200 so getting that with a good cooler may be the option!

Is it the tahiti core like uv mentioned? Those 7870s do look like great cards for the money atm :)

Lol I love how dg has taken such a quick exit from this thread with the amount of tripe he has posted.. and contradicted himself.. GG

I'd go with a 7850 or a 7870 and the rest on a CPU upgrade.

Also check the MM, I got a 7870 for £130 there and a FX8350 for £100(£110?). Yeah you'll need to up your budget slightly for a mobo though.

Why bother with any of the current AMD CPUs? The Piledrivers can barely pull their own weight in 2013 and they are the best they do. What are you going to do when we go next gen? The only option is an i5 or i7.

intel is the better overall choice but if you on a budget then amd still offer a very good option.

kettles i haven't gone anywhere just tired with arguing with people who just read few benchies while i have the exact same spec gaming machine at side of me :p .

ive played most of the modern games on it i know personally what it will and wont do i dont need to guess. its a forum at end of day people agree or disagree. that is all.

best of luck to you chap hope you get what you need :). also if you do go the gpu root remember to check you psu specs.

Yup. Your own personal experience that flies in the face of all our own experiences and all the information posted online is clearly the most valid. I can see why you're tired of us poor uneducated and illiterate masses struggling to understand your sage wisdom.

Agreed for the most part. There's very little point purchasing a BD CPU.

i have a 700W OCZ power supply so should be alrite in that direction thinking im gonna go for the GPU option maybe get a need fan and heatsink for cpu to milk it dry and get a new CPU/MOBO later in the year if i can hopefully get a job over summer!
