Looks like i'm changing my system because i've come to the conclusion my Motherboard is broken so i'm wondering if i should upgrade the CPU etc at the same time.. Old thread

Processor:
Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E4700 @ 2.60GHz (2 CPUs), ~2.6GHz
Memory:
3070MB RAM
Hard Drive:
629 GB
Video Card:
NVIDIA GeForce GTS 250
PSU:
750w

So my motherboard is broken so i need to buy a new one so should i just buy one for my current CPU or should i buy a new CPU to go with my new motherboard. I'm also looking for a decent case to go with this and i may need a new PSU with longer adapter cables if the PSU you is positioned at the bottom of the case.

Things I'm looking to buy:

- Motherboard (Must)
- Case (Must)
- Ram (Optional)
- CPU (Optional)
- PSU (Optional)

Ammount of money i have to spend is roughly £350 maybe low end £400 but i'd prefer it if i didn't have to spend that much :). I use my system mainly for playing games etc.

Post some compoments that you think would be a good upgrade please, and i don't mind switching to AMD if i buy a new CPU.

Yeah, i know someone who will buy my CPU for £65 if thats good or not and i could sell my GFX card to convert to ATI aswell i suppose.

I've got my options open at the moment anything is posible :).

Anymore combo's anyone would like to suggest?

You may want to order an additional 120mm fan for the case.

Ok Thanks, well thats the case sorted.

Not sure whether to stick with intel or go amd if i stick with intel i could buy a good mobo than but my Core 2 duo in and upgrade my CPU in the future where as i'd have to buy a slighty crapper mobo and cpu if i went AMD.

EDIT:

Would a fan like this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-024-AK&groupid=701&catid=57&subcat=4 be fine or this http://www.overclockers.co.uk/showproduct.php?prodid=FG-056-AK&tool=3 because it lights up (Y)

To be perfectly honest.

I don't believe you would notice the difference between DDR2 and DDR3, you would need to use a benckmark program to see the actual difference.

The issue with buying a lga775 socket motherboard is the fact your spending money on a dying/dead socket.

Is your budget still the same as your first post?

You could just buy a new cpu, motherboard and ram, and use your existing psu untill you can afford to change it.

hmm, ok.

My budget is still around the same but i havn't got round to finding my bank card to check how much i have in it so its an estimate :).

The case and the fan are £53.19 so i have about £320 maybe left.

So with approximately £320.

You can have the quad core 955be CPU.

The OCZ memory.

And a 890 chipset motherboard (gigabyte or asus).

Basically what matt has in his suggestion above.

Ok, thanks when i find out how much money i have i'll post back and i may be able to borrow some so i can stretch for that HexaCore

I would be intersted in doing a deal for your e4700 i have a brand new akasa 850w power supply that i have for sale. If your intested in deal. see my review on overclockers

As nice as that sounds i think i'm going to keep my power supply for now and see how it goes and sell my e4700 for cash.

Thats what its looking like at the moment, can someone just reasure me that my GTS 250 will fit in the case thats the only thing i'm worried about at the moment. Also the motherboard i chose hows that? I will most likely end up heading over to ATI in the future.

EDIT: just checked your first post Stulid and its the motherboard i chose. Do you think i'd be better off getting a better one now or will that one be fine?

At the moment i play on 1440 x 900 and i don't think i'm going to be getting a new monitor for a good few years. 1440 x 900 is big enough for me.

A single decent graphics card upto say a 5830 will be perfect.

If you decide on the future to stay with nvidia, you can't use two cards with these boards anyway.

Ah ok, think i'll stick with the mobo anyway even though i won't use the 2nd slot.

Is there anything else i'll need to put it all together?

Thermal paste? Or will that be supplied with the CPU
