Upgrade Help

Haven't upgraded this many parts in the past. Used to just be motherboard and processor and then I'd wait for the graphics card prices to go down and get one later in the year. However, my current spec is awful and hasn't been touched in years (3800+ AMD with a 8800GT)

Ideally I don't want to spend over 600 but my current first build list has gone to 800 quid! Gaming isn't really a priority that much anymore (got an xbox) but I do like the odd strategy game from time to time (waiting for Civ 5) - is the current graphics card overkill for my needs (running at 1920x1080)?

I've been doing a lot of encoding recently and with encoding comes video editing so that's why I've chosen a mid ranged but decent enough CPU.

Any ideas on where I can cut off some money and get the list down in price?

Oh gosh, so I would need a 1336 socket motherboard, they look expensive. Better get DDR3 dual

just buy a 4gb ddr3 kit.

Change the ram to this, is dual channel.

Change cpu to this, quad core is better for some of the latest games and encoding.

Could maybe change the gpu to a 5770/5830.

don't change a GTX460 for a 5770,5830 that card will bring you back to pc gaming.

Is a better graphics card option imo. about a fiver cheaper too.

The gpu option was just to save some more money, but yeah i would stick with the GTX460.

the 750CPU is only a little slower than the 760, and that is the closest AMD CPU match I can get for you, but yours may not even be a X2 dual core model.
