Hey all. i think i've finally gotta admit defeat in getting a bank loan for a new system :(

Could you guys gimmie some advice on what to upgrade. I'd like to be able to play the top end games on med-high settings if i could. heres my current system, im guessing a budget of £500-£800

Antec Nine Hundred - Advanced Gaming Case
Corsair 1000W Power Supply Unit
ASUS P5N-D
Intel® Core™2 Quad Q9550 Quad Core
2 x NVidia GeForce GTX 280 1GB

Im guessing the PSU will be fine to keep. My gfx cards do need to go as they have finally died on me...if only they could run at 115c stable ;) Not too fussed about SLI anymore either.

Thanks in advance!

Perhaps this RAM, which is on offer and matches the above board (good stuff too)

This hard drive will suit your motherboard

A 560 TI from Nvidia, good warranty.

Case...difficult, personal choice.

Recycle the PSU and use it in new build, or perhaps keep case too! You' ll need a new DVD writer, because most, if not all Z68 boards have no IDE slot (Sata required)

Hey, would i really need a new mobo?:/

I did have a friend round who tryed to overclock the cpu but couldnt, he told me it was "locked"

I do have a after market cooler on it also.

Im guessing if i could, just replace the cpu (if needed)
the gfx cards have to go, im hoping its them that are broke and not something else ;/
Probably need some better ram.

I probably will need a new mobo as i doubt this old one could handle the new hardware now?

thanks again

I am looking to upgrade my computer for more performance and I am looking for some help.

Right now my system hardaware specs are..

Asrock n68c-s motherboard
Nvidia geforce 250 gt graphics card
2x 2GB DDR3 1600 MHz hyperlink memory
Hitachi Deskstar 1TB SATA-II 32MB Cache
AMD Athlon ll x2 240 2.8GHz (using standard AMD cooling fan)
Antec High Current Gamer 520W supply

The ram is new so i have no need to replace that unless someone has any better suggestions for better performance.

My limit is £800 so if anyone can help me it will be appreciated, Thanks.

Von listed the new sandybridge processor so it would need a new mobo.

the processor can be overclocked seen a few of them in the overclock forum so i'd really look into it, maybe post in the overclock forum for help.

would be worth the effort just to overclock it and try it with a new graphics card first imo.

Andy_L :

i'd start your own thread mate you'll get more response :).
