Basically, i've become totally smitten by the Motorola Milestone recently, and so i'm trying to figure out how i can get the phone as soon as possible without doing the following:

* Buying the phone outright - i simply cannot possibly afford the £449.99
* Buying out the remaining time on my orange contract - i'm on a £25 + 7.50 contract which ends on 10/03/2010, this'll make it either £75 or £82.50 that i'll need to fork-over to orange in addition to the new contract. too much money!

what i'm hoping for is that; Either, i can cancel my orange contract early (somehow) without just throwing money at them. unfortunately, they aborted the T&C changes so that loophole is closed to me.

alternatively, is it possible for me to get the Milestone from it's exclusive retailer for it's £50 + contract now, pay the £50 up-front, and use the phone on orange until i can cancel my contract and THEN activate my new contract with T-Mobile, my reasoning for this is:

When i got my last phone on contract, i only opened it (and thus inserted the sim and turned it on) about 5 days after i ordered it, and my contract started on that day. how will T-Mobile/ExclusiveRetailer know that i've not activated my contract yet?

rambling aside, i do realise that both of these propositions are rather far-fetched and unlikely to succeed.

Isn't it possible to change to a cheaper tariff on Orange and then cancel the contract after a few months? Maybe they don't allow that anymore...

patience is a virtue. Hold on, or you will always be doing this. New and better phones may be out by then anyway,

I thought you can upgrade 3 months before the end of your contract on orange anyway. Obviously that only works if orange have the phone.

edit: I see that its exclusive to T-Mobile. You can try getting an iphone with orange and then selling that for a payg droid.

iPhones on orange are hilariously expensive - £90 up front and a 24-month contract

yea but they sell for hilariously expensive too...

if you want the newest tech you gotta pay the price for it

also it wont cost you 80 to cancel that orange contract. you can go down a tier to remove a fiver from your monthly bill and then when you cancel theres usually a discount (might just be the tax actually)

source: been researching it tonight because im about to do similar on vodafone

I shall call and enquire - if it's a reasonable price then i'll jump on it.

well, i called them up and they only wanted £55 for me to buy out my contract. job done, PAC is on it's way.

Hi Aod,

While I can see that you’ve pretty much made up your mind on the Milestone I’m interested to know what’s made you fall for this as oppose to any other phones we’re either currently stocking or are planning to stock next year.

Have you considered the HTC Magic which is a tried and tested Android phone and made the experts.

At the moment it’s available from as little as £20.00 per month and if you join through us we may be able to do it a little cheaper as well as looking at possibly doing something about any remaining months on your existing Orange agreement.

To get in touch to take us up on this just follow the instructions here.

Thanks and look forward to hearing from you.

Hello Vodafone.
i went for the Milestone because it is one of only two phones that satisfy my particular needs, the other being the Nokia N900, and to be frank, i prefer the way the Milestone looks.

specifically, i use my phone for emails/texts very frequently, so a hardware keyboard was essential. secondarily, i was looking for extra capabilities such as media playback and the like.

Simply put, if Vodafone had gotten the Milestone before t-mobile (through the exclusive 3rd party retailer) then i'd very likely have gone with you.

Even a 32GB 3Gs wont sell for more than £500 (considering you can get it from Apple for that much) and that means the Milestone will cost the same, meaning you get a milestone for the same amount and are stuck in a rubbish 2 year contract. Worst idea of them all tbh. :)

I would suggest either waiting or downgrading your contract and either cancelling it or letting it run its course (depending on the deal you can get) and get a second contract.
